How to care for episiotomy wound?

Episiotomy refers to a situation that pregnant women will encounter during the delivery process. It is to allow pregnant women to give birth smoothly, which is better for both pregnant women and babies. Postpartum conditioning is also very important, but this involves how to care for the episiotomy. If it is not properly cared for, the pregnant woman’s body will be very weak in the future. Therefore, female friends must pay attention to taking care of their bodies during confinement. So how should the episiotomy wound be cared for? Today we have also brought you some precautions. I hope that you will pay attention to the points mentioned in the article in the future to avoid leaving sequelae to the body and causing great torture to the body.

First, avoid hematoma from the wound

In the first few days after delivery, new mothers should lie on their right side to promote the outflow of accumulated blood in the wound, so as to prevent internal accumulation and formation of hematoma, which will affect healing. It can also prevent endometrial fragments in lochia from flowing into the wound and forming endometriosis in the future. After 4-5 days, when the wound grows more firmly and it is difficult for lochia to flow in, you can adopt a left-right alternating lying position. Pay attention to the condition of the perineal incision. If the wound becomes painful within 1-2 hours after the operation and it becomes more and more severe, you should contact a doctor immediately for timely treatment.

Second, avoid perineal incision infection

After giving birth, new mothers will sweat a lot, have lochia, and vaginal wounds. During this recovery period, new mothers must pay attention to physical hygiene and health care and must not stick to traditional views. When the wound becomes swollen, painful, indurated, and has purulent secretions when squeezed, medication should be taken under the guidance of a doctor.

Third, take care of edema wounds

When the wound is edematous, the sutures are tied tightly before they are removed, and the pain continues. You can use 95% alcohol gauze or 50% magnesium sulfate solution for local hot compress or wet compress twice a day. When doing so, try to raise your buttocks a little higher to facilitate the return of body fluids and reduce wound edema and pain.

Fourth, prevent perineal incision dehiscence

When constipation occurs, do not take in air to expand the perineum forcefully. You can use enema or liquid paraffin for lubrication, especially in the first 2 to 3 days after the stitches are removed. Avoid squatting and exerting force. When defecating, you should first contract the perineum and buttocks, and then sit on the toilet, which can effectively prevent the perineum wound from breaking.

Episiotomy can cause harm to the mother. Almost all people who have undergone episiotomy will experience itching and pain all year round, and a considerable number of people will develop infections and diseases, which may even be difficult to heal for years. For those with weak constitutions or who do not handle the situation properly, their lives may be in danger.
