What is the normal value of sugar screening for pregnant women?

It is very important for women to take care of their bodies during pregnancy. If they are not properly taken care of, it may induce some disease problems. For example, gestational diabetes is a relatively common type of diabetes. This is related to the insulin secretion of pregnant women during pregnancy, and it also has a certain relationship with diet and exercise. The so-called sugar screening is the abbreviation of gestational diabetes screening, which is to determine whether the pregnant woman has diabetes through certain examinations, and to monitor blood sugar. Once a pregnant woman has diabetes, it will not only cause great harm to her own health, but also be detrimental to the growth and development of the fetus. Therefore, in daily life, we must try our best to avoid this situation. This requires more attention to diet, try to control your mouth, and move your legs more.

What is Sugar Screener?

Diabetes that is first discovered or develops after pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. What is a sugar screen? Sugar screening is the abbreviation for gestational diabetes screening. The operation method is that the pregnant woman drinks a certain amount of glucose water in a short period of time and continuously monitors blood sugar changes. Sugar screening can monitor whether the pregnant woman has diabetes.

If the results of the pregnant woman's sugar screening show high risk, doctors will generally recommend continuing with a sugar tolerance test (glucose tolerance test) to confirm whether she has gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes can have many adverse effects on pregnant women and fetuses. Therefore, pregnant women who have the conditions are advised to undergo a sugar screening test to detect whether they have gestational diabetes as early as possible and treat it.

Sugar screening precautions

Pregnant women should undergo "sugar screening" at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy. There are a few things to note when screening for sugar:

1. Reduce the intake of starch and sugar two weeks before the examination:

Try to eat less staple food and pasta, and the amount of staple food such as rice and flour should not exceed half a pound a day. It is best not to drink rice porridge in the morning, you can use milk instead.

Do not eat high-fat foods and try not to eat sugary foods. Sugary foods here refer to sweets, beverages, and even fruits containing refined sugar that can be directly absorbed by the human body without any conversion, such as: chocolate, cola, lychees, sugar cane, large amounts of watermelons, etc.

The amount of fruit you eat should be limited, especially those with high sugar content. Don't eat eggs for dinner. Eat more vegetables, no less than 500 grams per day, to supplement vitamins and fiber. Drink plenty of water and exercise moderately. Take a walk after meals to burn off excess sugar.

2. The day before the sugar screening or glucose tolerance test, it is best to eat light vegetarian food and eat less rice.

3. Do not eat after 8 pm the night before the sugar screening and drink less water.

4. When doing sugar screening, do not swallow the sugar water in big gulps. Drink it little by little, but finish it within 3-5 minutes. It is best to walk more after drinking, so that the energy will be consumed within an hour, which will help lower blood sugar levels.

5. After drinking the sugar water, you must master the time of blood drawing, and draw blood one hour after drinking. If you start drinking at 7:10 and finish at 7:20, you will have to wait until 8:20 to have your blood drawn.

6. Pregnant women are advised to prepare some food and eat it after completing the sugar screening to avoid prolonged hunger and causing physical discomfort.
