How to care for cesarean section wound?

When a new life is born into a family, this life is happy and joyful, but mothers are also in pain amidst the joy and joy. Many mothers choose cesarean section due to their own psychological reasons or physical conditions, but the pain after anesthesia is indescribable. At this time, care and concern for the mother is extremely important. Moreover, if the caesarean section mothers are not properly cared for, their wounds may become festered and torn. So what should the care for mothers who have undergone cesarean section be like?

1. Just like vaginal delivery wounds, keep them clean and dry to avoid infection

Be sure to check the abdominal incision every day and disinfect the wound.

Within two weeks after the operation, avoid getting the abdominal incision wet. New mothers can use a wet towel to bathe, and must not take a tub bath until the lochia is completely discharged.

The breathable tape applied to the wound when you are discharged from the hospital can be removed after one week and you can take a shower. (After the operation, the doctor will apply cosmetic glue on the wound, and then cover the cosmetic glue with gauze. The gauze can be removed after 4 days, or immediately if it is damp. The cosmetic glue should be removed after about a week and replaced with ventilation paper tape.)

Within 1 week after surgery, measure body temperature twice a day (if the new mother feels unwell, the frequency of temperature measurement should be increased).

If the wound shows local redness, swelling, heat, cracking, or purulent secretions, or if you have a whole-body fever (even if your wound looks good), you must go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

2. Encourage new mothers to take more walks after surgery

Walking can help new mothers restore gastrointestinal system function as soon as possible.

3. Minimize activity and avoid lifting heavy objects

Try to get as much rest as possible when you get home, but also get up regularly and walk around. Walking can speed up recovery after surgery and help prevent complications such as blood clots, as long as the activity is not excessive. Start slowly and gradually increase the amount of activity.

It is best to hold the baby less during the confinement period, let alone carry objects heavier than the baby, so as not to squeeze the wound. It can also prevent back and leg pain from occurring in the future.

4. Try to avoid scarring

Gently massaging the wound with your fingers for 3-5 minutes every day can effectively reduce the formation of scars.

Avoid exposing the wound to direct sunlight, which will darken the scar.

Once scars are formed, you must keep the scar area clean and wipe off sweat in time. At the same time, do not use your hands to scratch to relieve itching, so as not to aggravate local irritation. The itching of scars usually disappears over time.

When discharged from the hospital, the doctor will put a dressing pack on the new mother's wound. This dressing can only be applied for a maximum of 3 days and must be removed when the time comes. Many new mothers are afraid that exposing the wound will cause friction. In fact, the wound can be covered by wearing the maternity underwear they wore before giving birth.

In addition, most wounds are sutured with catgut nowadays. If the thread ends are exposed, mothers should not cut them with scissors or try to pull them out. Wait for the follow-up check 42 days after delivery and let the doctor resolve the issue.
