1. What is irregular menstruation?

Menstrual irregularity is a general term, which includes early, late, irregular menstruation, excessive or insufficient menstruation, etc. From the perspective of modern medicine, irregular menstruation can be explained by disorders of the reproductive endocrine, nervous, and immune systems; from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, irregular menstruation is closely related to insufficient Qi and blood, dysfunction of internal organs, especially dysfunction of the liver, spleen, and kidney in traditional Chinese medicine.

When dealing with menstrual disorders, the nature and extent of the disease should be clarified first in order to determine the treatment plan and course. In terms of treatment methods, we can use traditional Chinese medicine or a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine based on the patient's treatment goals and the strengths of both. It is worth mentioning that traditional Chinese medicine has great advantages in overall regulating the balance of women's endocrine environment. Although the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine cannot be fully explained by modern medical theories, it has good clinical therapeutic effect.

Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan is a medicine for replenishing Qi, nourishing blood, regulating menstruation and stopping leucorrhea. Therefore, not everyone is suitable for taking Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan. In clinical practice, Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan is often used to treat physical weakness, soreness of the waist and knees, spontaneous sweating, palpitations, bone steaming and fatigue fever, irregular menstruation, long-term diarrhea and dysentery, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea caused by deficiency of both Qi and blood. Generally, Chinese medicine uses Buzhong Yiqi Pills to treat menstrual irregularities caused by Qi deficiency; uses Liangdi Decoction to treat menstrual irregularities caused by Yin deficiency and internal heat, i.e. blood heat; and uses Danwei Xiaoyao Pills to treat menstrual irregularities caused by liver heat. Because it is a ready-made formula, the dosage is fixed regardless of which manufacturer produces it. It is made of 20 kinds of Chinese medicinal materials including black chicken, ginseng, astragalus, salvia miltiorrhiza, angelica, white peony root, chuanxiong, raw rehmannia and cooked rehmannia. Among them, astragalus and ginseng are used to replenish qi; deer antler glue and deer antler frost are used to replenish the liver and kidneys; angelica, Chuanxiong, white peony root and raw rehmannia, commonly known as Siwu Decoction, are used to nourish blood; salvia miltiorrhiza and oyster are used to promote blood circulation, disperse nodules, nourish yin and calm the nerves; asparagus is used to nourish yin; yam and Euryale ferox have the effects of replenishing the spleen, removing dampness, strengthening the kidneys and stopping leukorrhea; processed Cyperus rotundus is a qi-regulating medicine.
