Is endometrial biopsy a curettage?

How is an endometrial biopsy performed? I believe that everyone is relatively unfamiliar with endometrial puncture biopsy. In fact, female friends can learn more about this information, because endometrial puncture biopsy is also a common gynecological examination item. So how to do endometrial puncture biopsy? Let me tell you!

How is an endometrial biopsy performed?

Use a metal or plastic tube to enter the uterus through the cervix. Move the tube up and down and at the same time use the outer end to perform liposuction, suck out and collect uterine wall tissue, and send it to the laboratory for examination. The cause of abnormal bleeding can usually be diagnosed. Uterine wall puncture biopsy can be performed in the diagnosis room without anesthesia, similar to the feeling of menstrual cramps. Endometrial puncture biopsy means a minimally invasive procedure performed within 12 hours before menstruation or menarche. Take some uterine wall for examination. If there are metabolic changes, it means there is ovulation. If there are proliferative changes, it means there is no ovulation. You can also check for other diseases such as endometrial tuberculosis.

Why do you need a uterine wall biopsy?

1. Identify corpus luteum function: If the phase of endometrial tissue biopsy lags behind the Neuss standard for more than 2 days, corpus luteum insufficiency can be diagnosed.

2. Confirm whether ovulation occurs or not: If the uterine wall biopsy shows that it is in the metabolic period, it indicates that there is ovulation in this cycle; if it is still in the reproductive period, it indicates that there is no ovulation in this cycle.

3. Diagnosis of uterine wall diseases: such as endometrial hyperplasia, uterine intrauterine polyps, submucosal uterine fibroids, uterine wall tuberculosis, etc.

The best time to do a uterine wall biopsy

A small piece of the uterine wall (the mucus film lining the uterus) is removed 1 to 3 days before the estimated menarche. The procedure for a uterine wall biopsy involves inserting a tool through the cervix into the uterus to obtain a sample. The puncture biopsy is mainly used to determine whether the follicular phase of the fertility cycle is sufficient. If ovulation has occurred, histological examination will show changes in the metabolism of the uterine wall glands. The examination process may cause uterine cramps and discomfort. If it occurs in early pregnancy, it may cause termination of pregnancy, but this risk is very small. Therefore, uterine wall puncture biopsy should not be used as a first-line diagnostic test.
