How long does the egg survive?

The egg is the female's reproductive cell. Generally, one egg is produced every thirty days. The egg matures in a liquid vesicle. The egg is generally retained for about a day, but some eggs can be retained for two days, which should be relatively strong. As the largest cell in the human body, the egg is responsible for the reproduction of human life.

1. Survival time

Women of normal reproductive age ovulate once a month, approximately 12-16 days before the next menstrual period. The egg has the strongest fertilization ability within 6 hours after being released from the ovary, and can maintain fertilization ability for about 30 hours. After that, the egg begins to degenerate, and the fertilization ability rapidly weakens and disappears. Although sperm ejaculated into the female reproductive tract can survive for up to 4 to 5 days, its strong fertilization ability lasts only for 1 to 2 days. In other words, conception is only possible if sexual intercourse occurs within 1 to 2 days before or after a woman's ovulation. After a normal person ejaculates, sperm enters the uterine cavity and can survive for about 2 to 3 days, but its fertility can only be maintained for 1 to 2 days. Sperm that does not enter the uterine cavity and remains in the vagina will not survive for more than 1 day.

2. Best time

Experts say that under the influence of sex hormones, the oocytes will be wrapped in the original follicles, and only one primordial follicle can mature every month and discharge the mature egg from the ovary into the abdominal cavity. Normally, about 300 to 400 eggs mature in a woman's lifetime, and the remaining oocytes will die on their own. The egg can survive for 48 hours after being released, and it is during these 48 hours that the egg and sperm meet and combine. However, after the egg is released, it cannot meet the sperm to form a fertilized egg due to various reasons and will die after 48 to 72 hours. In a few cases, two or more eggs can be released, which is the alternating ovulation of the left and right ovaries. However, if they combine with sperm separately, dizygotic twins and polyzygotic multiple births will occur.

3. Conditions

1. The ovaries release normal eggs

2. The semen is normal and contains normal sperm

3. The egg and sperm can meet in the fallopian tube and combine to form a fertilized egg

4. The fertilized egg is successfully transported into the cavity

5. The endometrium is fully prepared for the fertilized egg to implant.
