Causes of itchy nipples :

It manifests in women experiencing unbearable nipple itching or pain before, during or after menstruation, which makes them unable to wear clothes. The itching gradually improves after the period ends. This is also called "nipple itching and pain during menstruation." In treatment, it is important to note that nipple itching can be either real or false. Excessive syndrome is mostly caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis, the disease occurs during menstruation, and the pain is worse than itching and swelling. Deficiency syndrome is mostly caused by qi and blood deficiency, the disease occurs during menstruation or after menstruation, and the itching is more severe than the pain. Treatment for itchy nipples

(1) Nipple itching caused by Qi stagnation and blood stasis:

Emotional damage, liver depression and qi stagnation, poor blood circulation, and nipple congestion. During menstruation, qi and blood are exuberant and stagnation is aggravated, thus causing nipple itching: starting a few days before menstruation, the nipples become swollen, painful and itchy, and you cannot wear clothes. Frequent belching, irregular menstruation, and lower abdominal distension and pain. The tongue is dark or has ecchymosis, the tongue coating is thin, and the pulse is stringy and astringent. Treatment should be aimed at regulating Qi, removing stagnation, nourishing blood and activating blood circulation. The preferred prescription is Xiaoyao Powder (10 grams each of Bupleurum, Angelica, White Peony, Poria, and Atractylodes, and 6 grams each of Mint, Ginger, and Licorice). Combined with Taohong Siwu Decoction (10 grams each of peach kernel and safflower, 12 grams of raw rehmannia, 15 grams of angelica, 10 grams each of red peony root and Chuanxiong). For those with irritability and anger, add 10 grams each of Moutan Bark and Gardenia Fructus to clear away heat and relieve restlessness; for those with lower abdominal distension and pain, add 10 grams each of Cyperus rotundus and Corydalis to promote qi and relieve pain; for those with severe nipple itching, add 10 grams each of Tribulus terrestris and Saposhnikovia divaricata to dispel wind and relieve itching.

(2) Insufficient Qi and blood causes nipple itching:

After menstruation, yin blood flows downward, qi is damaged along with blood, liver blood is deficient, spleen qi is deficient, nipples lose nourishment from qi and blood, or blood dryness generates wind and causes itching and pain: during or after menstruation, nipples become unbearably itchy, or accompanied by dull pain. Soft nipples. Pale complexion, palpitations, shortness of breath, and limb weakness. In the later stage of menstruation, the amount is small and light in color, the lips and tongue are pale, the tongue coating is thin, and the pulse is thready and weak. The treatment is to invigorate Qi and nourish blood, relieve pain and stop itching.
