Does ovarian teratoma surgery affect fertility?

Ovarian teratoma is a relatively common gynecological tumor and generally requires surgery for treatment. Generally speaking, if the disease is not particularly serious, retaining the ovaries and other tissues after surgery will not affect fertility. However, if the disease is more serious, it may affect fertility. For ovarian cysts, you must be vigilant and take it seriously, and go to the hospital for examination in time.

Ovarian cysts (i.e. cystic ovarian tumors) are common gynecological tumors, most of which are benign and can occur in any age group. Because the ovaries are relatively small organs in the human body and are hidden deep in the pelvic cavity, early cysts are generally difficult to detect and are often discovered accidentally during B-ultrasound examinations.

As the cyst grows larger, there will be abdominal distension and discomfort. Some patients can feel a lump in the abdomen. When the cyst grows to a certain size, it will compress the surrounding organs and cause discomfort. For example, when the cyst compresses the bladder, it can cause frequent urination and difficulty urinating; when the cyst compresses the ureter, it can cause hydroureteric and hydronephrosis and produce low back pain; when the cyst compresses the intestine, it can cause intestinal flatulence, constipation, etc. In addition, ovarian cysts may twist, rupture, or become infected, leading to peritonitis, severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, or even shock. Some cysts may also become malignant.

Some women think that "since most ovarian cysts are benign, you can ignore them", but this is actually incorrect. The ovaries not only affect women's quality of life, but the sex hormones they produce are the basis of women's physical and mental health. At the same time, the mature eggs they release are the source of women's reproductive function. If ovarian cysts are not treated in time, they may gradually grow larger and compress the surrounding normal ovarian tissue, affecting the endocrine function of the ovaries and the quality of eggs, and thus affecting reproductive function.

In addition, if it is an ovarian malignant tumor, early detection and timely treatment will improve the prognosis and increase the possibility of retaining fertility. However, if it develops to the late stage, the entire uterus and both adnexa must be removed, and pregnancy and childbirth will be out of the question. At present, there are some indicators that can predict the benign or malignant nature of ovarian tumors, such as CA125, CA199, HE4, CEA, AFP, etc. These tumor markers can help determine the benign or malignant nature of ovarian cysts and provide timely treatment.
