What should older pregnant women pay attention to in their diet during the first three months?

Since the two-child policy was relaxed, many older women have a strong desire to have children. The advanced age here refers to the medically considered age for pregnancy to be extremely high. It is generally believed that women over 35 are considered advanced age pregnant women, and women over 40 are considered super advanced age pregnant women. At this time, human functions begin to decline and the risk of pregnancy increases greatly. Adequate nutrition is a prerequisite for ensuring the health of mother and baby. So for older pregnant women, what should they pay attention to in their diet in the first three months?

Things to note for older pregnant women in the first three months

With the relaxation of the two-child policy, there are more and more older pregnant women who are having a second child. It is very stressful for women to get pregnant at an older age. They need to adjust their daily life. So what should older pregnant women pay attention to in the first three months?

1. Supplement folic acid regularly and in a fixed amount. Folic acid supplementation usually starts 1-3 months before pregnancy and stops when the pregnancy is 3 months old. If you are already pregnant, you need to start taking folic acid now, with a total daily amount of 0.4-0.8 mg. Folic acid can prevent the baby's nervous system from developing abnormalities and cleft lip and palate, and it also prevents anemia in pregnant women. It is generally taken until the 12th week of pregnancy.

2. Pay more attention to indicators such as blood sugar and blood pressure. Older pregnant women are more likely to suffer from pregnancy-related heart disease, pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome and gestational diabetes. Since the blood volume in pregnant women is significantly higher than that in non-pregnant women, the burden on the heart is increased. Pregnant women who already have heart disease may have to terminate their pregnancy early due to intolerance.

3. Strictly control your diet. It is recommended to eat high-protein, low-fat, mild foods. Tea, wine, cigarettes, coffee, and foods containing alcohol and caffeine are not suitable. Sufficient zinc is necessary in the initial stage of embryonic development, which can be absorbed by eating zinc-rich foods such as beef, seafood, and animal liver.

4. Pay attention to controlling your weight. Older pregnant women are more likely to gain weight and excessive weight during pregnancy than those in their twenties, which can lead to diabetes. In addition, the baby in the belly may grow too large, making delivery difficult. Therefore, weight needs to be controlled. Generally, the weight gain of a pregnant woman at 40 weeks of pregnancy should not exceed 12.5 kg, of which the fetus accounts for about 3-3.5 kg.
