Is back pain caused by gynecological diseases?

Women are easily affected by gynecological diseases. Various gynecological diseases may cause women to have symptoms of low back pain, such as common pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, or cervical cancer, which are all causes of low back pain.

1. Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease is one of the common gynecological inflammations in women, mainly including endometritis, salpingitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, and pelvic peritonitis. Pelvic inflammatory disease often occurs during the sexually active period, but rarely occurs in women before menarche, after menopause, and in unmarried women. Symptoms: Common symptoms of acute pelvic inflammatory disease are lower abdominal pain, which worsens with activity and after sexual intercourse; fever, and increased vaginal discharge.

2. Uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in women, and are common in women aged 30 to 50. The symptoms of uterine fibroids are mainly related to the location of the fibroid growth and whether it is degenerated, but have little to do with the size or number of the fibroids. In addition to the back pain caused by the disease itself, if the disease is not treated in time or not treated properly, it can leave chronic pelvic pain and cause lumbar pain. Symptoms: lower abdominal distension, back pain, which worsens during menstruation; other common symptoms are increased menstrual flow and prolonged menstruation, lower abdominal mass, increased leucorrhea, etc.

3. Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy in women. The main clinical symptoms are vaginal bleeding: contact bleeding in the early stage, irregular vaginal bleeding in the late stage, and irregular vaginal bleeding after menopause in elderly patients. In addition, patients have vaginal discharge, which is mostly white or bloody and thin like watery rice-water-like fluid. Patients with advanced cervical cancer will experience different secondary symptoms depending on the extent of cancer involvement, such as frequent urination, urgency, low back pain, constipation, etc. The main cause of low back pain is cancer compression or involvement of the ureter, which can cause ureteral obstruction, hydronephrosis and uremia, thereby causing low back pain.

4. Abnormal uterine position

The normal uterus is in a slightly anteverted and flexed position, and the surrounding ligaments can move freely. When the uterus is retroflexed or tilted backward, inflammation of the uterus and surrounding areas may cause adhesions, which can cause tractional low back pain. This situation often occurs after frequent abortions, multiple births or other uterine surgeries. Uterine prolapse is also a type of abnormal uterine position. Grade II-III uterine prolapse can pull on the ligaments, causing varying degrees of lumbar and sacral pain or a feeling of falling. Symptoms: varying degrees of pain or a feeling of heaviness in the lumbar region.

5. Endometriosis

Symptoms: Secondary dysmenorrhea, which progressively worsens with the menstrual cycle, is a typical symptom of endometriosis, and the pain is mainly in the lower abdomen, lumbosacral region and mid-pelvic cavity. In addition to dysmenorrhea, infertility, menstrual abnormalities, and sexual discomfort are also clinical manifestations of this disease.
