Is bacterial vaginitis serious?

Compared with other gynecological inflammations, bacterial vaginosis is very difficult to treat, and the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are very uncomfortable for women. Sometimes many people don't care about it in life, but it also has a series of complications.

Generally speaking, most patients with bacterial vaginosis do not have any symptoms, which is why it is often ignored. When some patients experience symptoms such as genital odor, they simply clean themselves to solve the problem, thus ignoring its existence. Although the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are not obvious, it is not a disease that will make you worry-free. If you do not pay attention to it, some complications may easily occur.

Patients with bacterial vaginitis generally have increased leucorrhea, which is white or gray, foamy, and has a special fishy smell. The odor is more severe during menstruation or sexual intercourse. Some patients may have no symptoms. Most patients who come to the doctor are because they feel itching and burning sensation in the vulva, but no inflammation is visible in the vaginal wall during gynecological examination. This is also a characteristic of bacterial vaginitis.

About 10% to 50% of patients with this disease are asymptomatic. Those with symptoms often complain of grayish-white leucorrhea with a fishy odor, vaginal burning and itching.

Because increased leucorrhea is not a specific symptom of this disease, gonorrhea, candidal vaginitis, and Trichomonas vaginitis can all cause clinical symptoms of increased leucorrhea. Most patients with this disease are women of childbearing age. The disease has a slow onset and the subjective symptoms are not obvious, with the main manifestation being increased leucorrhea.
