It is very common for women to have delayed menstruation, but if the delay is too long, such as one or two months, women should pay attention to it, as it is likely caused by kidney deficiency or blood deficiency, as well as insufficient qi and blood. 1. Normal situation of menstruation being delayed for one month Generally speaking, menstruation is called delayed if the menstrual cycle is delayed for more than 7 days, or even once every 3 to 5 months, and this happens for two consecutive cycles. If menstruation is delayed once in a while, or if it is delayed for a month but the next period is normal, it is not treated as a menstrual disorder medically. In addition, menstrual disorders are not considered to be caused by the onset of menstruation within one year of puberty, or delayed menstrual cycles during perimenopause, or amenorrhea after pregnancy without other symptoms. 2. Kidney deficiency leads to delayed menstruation. "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" says: When a woman is 27 years old, her menstrual period comes, the Ren meridian is open, the Taichong meridian is strong, and her menstruation comes on time, so she can have children. If the kidney qi is insufficient due to congenital deficiency or damaged after birth, the kidney will be deficient in essence and blood, the Chong and Ren meridians will be empty and the blood sea will not be able to overflow on time, thus causing delayed menstruation. In this case, in addition to delayed menstruation, there are usually other symptoms such as scanty menstruation, back pain, weak legs, dizziness, tinnitus, and dull complexion. 3. Delayed menstruation due to blood deficiency. Congenitally weak constitution, insufficient blood (similar to what we usually call congenital anemia), or suffering from chronic hemorrhagic diseases, or too many births, or weak spleen and insufficient source of energy (Chinese medicine believes that blood is produced by the spleen and stomach after absorbing nutrients from food and undergoing a series of transformations), which leads to deficiency of the sea of blood and delayed menstruation. Delayed menstruation caused by this reason is usually accompanied by less menstrual flow, lighter menstrual color, dizziness, pale or sallow complexion, etc. 4. Cold blood causes delayed menstruation. Yang deficiency constitution, or long-term illness damaging the yang, or catching cold during menstruation or after childbirth, or eating too much cold food can cause cold blood. Coldness slows down blood flow, causing blockage of the Chong and Ren meridians and delayed menstruation. At this time, there are often symptoms such as cold pain in the lower abdomen, preference for warmth, and cold hands and feet. |
