Precautions after amniocentesis, pregnant women should know

Speaking of amniotic fluid, many people must know that when a woman is pregnant, the amniotic fluid is mainly used to keep the baby healthy. Now, in order to be able to check whether the baby is healthy in the mother's belly in advance, amniocentesis is needed. This is one of the examination methods, but after amniocentesis, people must pay attention to related matters.

1. Amniotic fluid chromosome testing only detects fetal chromosomal diseases and does not rule out developmental malformations and genetic diseases. If the fetal chromosomes are normal, please continue with normal prenatal checkups.

2. Amniocentesis involves inserting a needle into the abdomen. After the puncture, a band-aid will be placed at the needle hole in the abdomen. If you are allergic to it, you can tear it off immediately. If you are not allergic, you can tear it off after returning home or on the second day after the puncture.

3. Please do not take a bath on the day after surgery. If you must shower, please put a waterproof patch on the needle hole to prevent infection.

4. Please take rest within 2 weeks after the operation. Unless there are special circumstances, there is no need to rest in bed. You can work normally if you are not tired. If you need a sick leave certificate, you can ask the puncture doctor to issue it after the puncture.

5. Amniocentesis in our center is a minor outpatient surgery, and the general risk of miscarriage is less than 1‰. The following situations may increase the chance of miscarriage: a, infection (various inflammations); b, high fever; c, vaginal bleeding; d, vaginal discharge (premature rupture of membranes); e, abnormal fetal movement (less than 10 fetal movements or no fetal movement within 24 hours); f, unexplained abdominal pain; g, pathological pregnancy (such as pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, cholestasis syndrome, etc.); h, underlying diseases (such as heart disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, etc.); i, external force, such as wrestling, collision, etc. If any of the above situations occur, you should inform the outpatient doctor truthfully so that an appropriate surgery time can be arranged.

6. Please do not be anxious or tired after amniocentesis. If you experience any discomfort, you can go to the local hospital outpatient or emergency department for follow-up.

7. The amniocentesis results will be notified by phone 14 days from the day of the puncture. Please keep your phone open. If you have filled out a courier form, please write down the number. So that you can check it yourself after sending the express. Written report will be delivered within 7 days after receiving the notification.

8. If there are any special circumstances, please inform the notification personnel (when notifying the inspection results by phone).

9. If the result is abnormal, it is recommended that you return to our hospital for genetic counseling.
