Why do follicles become smaller? The reason is so complicated

Under normal circumstances, a woman's follicles will slowly grow to maturity and will be successfully discharged during the ovulation period. However, some women's follicles will become smaller. There are many reasons behind this, such as endocrine disorders in women, and many other factors.

1. Pituitary diseases Pituitary diseases include organic and functional ones, which will reflect on the ovaries and affect the development of follicles.

2. Hypothalamic lesions Poor follicular development is closely related to hypothalamic abnormalities, which often include two aspects: primary organic factors and secondary organic factors.

3. Abnormal thyroid function Abnormal thyroid and adrenal cortex function often leads to ovarian ovulation disorders, which is not conducive to the development of follicles.

4. Ovarian dysfunction such as polycystic ovary syndrome, premature ovarian failure and gonadal insufficiency will affect the ovulatory function of the ovaries and the development of follicles.

5. The quality of the eggs ovulated by small follicles is poor, which will affect normal conception and fertility. Severe conditions will directly lead to infertility. In addition, even if you become pregnant, the probability of stillbirth or miscarriage is very high. Only when the follicles are fully developed and function well, and the eggs discharged are mature and healthy, can you have good birth and upbringing. The eggs released by small ovarian follicles are immature and therefore cannot lead to normal conception. Even if the sperm and egg combine, miscarriage, stillbirth, etc. are likely to occur. Therefore, if the follicles do not develop well, treatment must be carried out.

What should women do if their ovarian follicles are small?

Generally, follicle development is related to endocrine and ovarian function. Usually, the treatment for small follicles is to go to the hospital for endocrine and ovulation examinations to identify the cause and provide symptomatic treatment.

For patients with small follicle development, it is recommended that you go to a regular hospital for ovulation induction treatment. Patients with small follicle development may definitely have abnormal menstruation. Generally, the follicle will rupture when it grows to about 1.8-2.5. If the follicle does not rupture but atrophies, it is a manifestation of luteinized follicle, and an endocrine examination is needed to determine the cause. If your infertility is caused only by small follicle development, it is recommended that you first undergo ovulation induction treatment.
