Don’t ignore oral ulcers, it is a disease that needs to be treated!

Oral ulcers are a very common oral mucosal disease in life. If the condition is not serious, it will generally disappear on its own, so it is easy for us to ignore it. Here we remind everyone that if you have oral ulcers, you must seek timely treatment. It takes time to disappear on its own, and it may cause other diseases during this period. You should also pay attention to prevention in daily life.

1. Choose reasonable oral care tools

For conscious patients without oral ulcers in the recovery period, the use of non-irritating toothpaste and soft-bristled brushes is encouraged. If you have ulcers, stop using a toothbrush to prevent further damage to the oral mucosa and use a sterilized cotton ball instead. Patients who can take care of themselves should brush their teeth in the morning and evening, rinse their mouths with mouthwash after meals, and gargle with the mouthwash for at least 90 seconds each time. For patients who cannot take care of themselves and are unconscious, help them with oral care 4 times a day. In addition to conventional oral care methods, you can use an opener to prop open the mouth, and scrub from the inside to the outside and from top to bottom, using gentle movements to avoid damaging the oral mucosa.

2. Encourage patients to drink more water according to their condition

People who fast and abstain from water can moisten their mouth frequently to avoid dry mouth. For patients with oral ulcers, they should be given semi-liquid or soft food that is high in protein, calories, and vitamins. Avoid foods that are sour, spicy, overheated, rough, and other irritating to the ulcer surface. Eat small meals frequently at a moderate speed to avoid irritating and damaging the mucosa and inducing pain. Those who cannot eat due to oral ulcer pain can gargle with 2% lidocaine or use a small amount of 1% dicaine local spray to relieve the difficulty in eating caused by oral ulcer pain.

3. Reasonable diet

The diet should be light, easy to digest, rich in high calories and protein, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits; if the patient has difficulty eating, nasogastric feeding can be used; do a good job of psychological care. Due to long-term repeated damage, patients often lose confidence in recovery, and even worry about life, work, and future. Patients should be encouraged to establish the determination and confidence to overcome the disease.
