Why do I have a lot of phlegm but no cough? The doctor said so

Generally speaking, if a person has a lot of phlegm, it means that the respiratory tract is inflamed. At this time, the patient should take preventive measures as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the disease. However, some patients have symptoms of a lot of phlegm but no cough. What's going on?

What is the cause of excessive phlegm?

1. Suffering from rhinitis, the nasal mucosa secretes a large amount of purulent and highly viscous secretions under the action of inflammation, which are transported to the nasopharynx through the nasal cilia and adhere to the nasopharynx, causing a foreign body sensation in the throat, which is then coughed out.

2. If an exogenous infection is not treated properly, or if a person is weak and suffers from exogenous infection repeatedly, the lung qi will be damaged and unable to transport fluid to the four parts of the body and regulate the water channels to transport it to the bladder, causing the fluid to remain and turn into phlegm. The phlegm is stored in the lungs, and the lung qi is not well affected. The phlegm rushes into the airways and causes coughing and excessive phlegm.

3. Weak constitution and insufficient vital energy, due to spleen deficiency, can cause moisture to retain and condense into phlegm.

4. Weak spleen and stomach, lingering stagnation of water and dampness, which damage the spleen and stomach; or overeating of raw food, melons and fruits, which damages the middle yang; or drinking too much water due to fever, which causes the spleen to function poorly, etc., can all cause water and dampness to remain and gather into phlegm. In addition, eating too much fatty and sweet food can cause turbid air to accumulate in the stomach, generate dampness and heat, and turn into turbid phlegm.

How to treat excessive phlegm

1. Develop a good habit of washing your nose in the morning and evening to unclog your nasal passages, reduce the number of viruses in the nasal cavity, alleviate nasal inflammation, and ultimately eliminate rhinitis.

2. After getting up in the morning, drink a glass of boiled water before massage. Only by persisting throughout the year can you see results.

3. Use anti-inflammatory and expectorant drugs to treat both the symptoms and the root cause. Never abuse cough suppressants as they only treat the symptoms and not the root cause, and may even make the condition worse.

4. Massage the nose and throat. Use your bent thumb to massage along the nasal bone, both sides, up and down 44 times. Then place your palms on the larynx and massage up and down 66 times. Once in the morning and evening.

If excessive phlegm becomes a habitual disease, early treatment is necessary. Remember, don't spit anywhere. Because each person's sputum density is different, all kinds of bacteria may be carried in it. If you spit randomly, when the phlegm dries, thousands of bacteria in the phlegm will float into the air and affect the health of others.
