It is normal for women to lose pubic hair. If there is a lot of hair loss, it should be taken seriously.

Any tissue or organ in our body will undergo metabolism. Take our hair for example. We lose hair every day and new hair grows at the same time. In fact, the same goes for pubic hair. A small amount of shedding is a sign of metabolism, but a large amount of shedding should be taken seriously, as it may be caused by a certain disease.

Pay attention to the loss of pubic hair

Like head hair and armpit hair, pubic hair also has metabolism. About 10-20 pubic hairs fall off every day, and are replaced approximately every six months. As age increases, the secretion of sex hormones gradually decreases, the hair follicles gradually atrophy, pubic hair shedding increases, and pubic hair will gradually become sparse. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. Before and after menopause, pubic hair falls out faster. If there are no special abnormal symptoms, it is physiological and there is no need to worry about it. However, some teenagers also experience severe pubic hair loss, which should be taken seriously because this situation is mostly caused by some disease.

Causes of pubic hair loss

The most common causes of premature pubic hair loss in women are pituitary prolactinoma and hypopituitarism. The former can occur at any age, while the latter is more common in women with postpartum hemorrhage. The lesions in both cases are located in the pituitary gland. If you suffer from a pituitary prolactinoma, the concentration of prolactin in the blood will increase. In addition to galactorrhea, the patient will also suffer from loss of axillary and pubic hair. If pubic hair loss is accompanied by symptoms such as menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, nipple discharge, and headache, you should go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible. Some patients need to take certain medications for a long time due to their medical conditions, such as anti-tumor drugs, antipsychotic drugs, and drugs for treating rheumatic diseases, which can cause pubic hair loss.

In addition, Sjögren's syndrome, hypothyroidism, endogenous obesity, adrenal insufficiency, etc. can all cause pubic hair loss. It can be seen that pubic hair loss can also be a symptom of certain diseases. If pubic hair loss is obvious and gradually worsens, and is accompanied by other symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately.
