Is it normal to not have your period for half a year?

Menstruation is a physiological condition that occurs after female friends enter puberty. Generally, normal women will have menstruation once a month, but some women may experience irregular menstruation, and some women will never have menstruation. This situation is generally called amenorrhea, which is an abnormal situation. It must be taken seriously when it occurs. So, is it normal not to have menstruation for half a year? Let’s take a look at it together.

When a woman does not have menstruation for three months or more after her first menstrual period, it is called secondary amenorrhea. Normal menstruation in women is completed by the normal regulation of endocrine hormones secreted by the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary, among which pituitary gonadotropin plays a dominant role in regulating ovarian function and maintaining the menstrual cycle. Causes of amenorrhea include:

(1) Diseases. Mainly including wasting diseases, such as severe pulmonary tuberculosis, severe anemia, malnutrition, etc., unique endocrine diseases, such as "obesity reproductive incompetence malnutrition", etc.; the influence of some endocrine system disorders in the body, such as adrenal gland, thyroid gland, pancreas and other functional disorders.

(2) Atresia of the lower reproductive tract.

(3) Hypoplasia of reproductive organs.

(4) Tuberculous endometritis.

(5) Abnormal pituitary gland or hypothalamus function, etc.

After secondary amenorrhea occurs, you should go to the hospital for examination in time to find out the cause of amenorrhea based on medical history and physical examination, relevant auxiliary examinations, hormone testing, etc. Treatment is based on different causes. For some patients, menstruation can resume naturally after physical and mental adjustments or stopping the use of contraceptives. For some patients, menstruation can resume after the use of progesterone, artificial cycles and ovulation induction treatment. Women whose ovarian function is damaged or destroyed, resulting in premature ovarian failure, can receive hormone replacement therapy.

Through the above introduction, we now know that it is abnormal if there is no menstruation for half a year. This is also a reaction to a disease. We must go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment. In addition, we must pay attention to our living habits and eating habits in normal times, especially pay attention to our mood, and adjust in many aspects.
