When is the best time to do curettage?

Curettage is a surgical procedure that involves scraping the uterine wall or the contents of the uterine cavity. Minimally invasive surgery is commonly performed in obstetrics and gynecology and is one of the methods of abortion. It is divided into two categories: diagnostic curettage (commonly known as curettage) and therapeutic curettage. Possess certain risk factors and complications.

Curettage is divided into general curettage and segmental curettage. General curettage is suitable for endocrine abnormalities, such as understanding the changes in the uterine wall and its response to estrogen, whether there is ovulation, and whether there is tuberculosis. Segmental curettage refers to the operation of first scraping the cervical canal and then the uterine cavity. The scrapings are sent for pathological examination separately. It is suitable for diagnosing cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and other uterine malignant tumors, and can determine the scope of cancer.

The best time for curettage is 42-63 days after menstruation. Obvious fetal buds can be found in the uterine cavity, which is less likely to cause missed aspiration and rarely incomplete aspiration. Moreover, the tissue is relatively soft and is not easy to clog plastic straws. Within 42 days of amenorrhea, it is very easy to have aspiration leakage during curettage. If the fetus has been born more than 63 days after menstruation, it is not appropriate to use a plastic straw to scrape the uterine cavity. Therefore, if the menstruation has not stopped for more than 63 days, termination of pregnancy generally requires oral medication for abortion.

After about 12 weeks of amenorrhea, medical abortion combined with curettage is often required to terminate the pregnancy. Pregnancy that has been stopped for more than 12 weeks often requires hospitalization. After hospitalization, medical abortion, hydrocele, or levanolate induction can be selected according to the specific circumstances.
