Will menstruation come during breastfeeding?

Lactation is a special physiological stage for women. Many times, during breastfeeding, various aspects of a woman's life may be interrupted, such as menstruation. Many women seem to experience amenorrhea during breastfeeding. So, what is the cause of this? Will menstruation come during breastfeeding? Such issues need everyone's attention, as this is women's responsibility for their own bodies.

Many people believe that women will not have menstruation during breastfeeding. Theoretically, the absence of menstruation means that the ovaries are not ovulating normally, and without ovulation, pregnancy will not occur. After delivery, due to the increase in prolactin secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, the mother's milk production increases significantly. Due to the influence of prolactin, the ovaries stop ovulating during this period, so menstruation does not occur. But after a period of time. The ovaries of some mothers can slowly resume ovulation function during lactation. However, it is difficult to predict when the ovaries will ovulate for the first time after delivery. This time can be as short as 3 months or as long as about 1 year. If the ovaries have begun ovulating for the first time after childbirth, but the couple does not know this and happens to have sex during the ovulation period, pregnancy is possible. If pregnancy occurs, menstruation will not come afterwards. This is why you can get pregnant even though you haven't had your period after giving birth.

During lactation, the increase in prolactin inhibits the secretion of estrogen, and the ovaries are insensitive to the stimulation of pituitary gonadotropin, so under normal circumstances, there is no ovulation and no menstruation.

However, there are also a small number of women who have less milk, and the baby's sucking stimulation is abnormal and irregular. They are not exclusively breastfed, and other complementary foods may be added. This reduces prolactin secretion and weakens the mechanism for inhibiting menstruation, leading to the resumption of menstruation. Women who breastfeed for a long time are more likely to experience renewed menstruation. The resumption of menstruation does not mean that a breastfeeding woman is in poor health or unhealthy.

Breastfeeding is a special period. For women, the baby’s health is most important at this time. In fact, women’s own health status is also very important. Everyone needs to know their own menstrual cycle, such as whether menstruation will come during breastfeeding, so that they can keep themselves and their baby healthy.
