What to do if you have facial paralysis during breastfeeding

Facial paralysis is generally referred to as a facial expression disorder caused by central nervous system motor disorders. Its general manifestation is facial paralysis. The onset of this disease is not limited by age. Anyone may suffer from it under special circumstances. However, breastfeeding is a special period. Once you have facial paralysis, it is difficult to treat. It is generally recommended to adopt traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture treatment.

Facial paralysis is also known as facial nerve paralysis, facial neuritis, Bell's palsy, Hunter syndrome, wry mouth, hanging line wind, etc. It usually refers to a common disease characterized by motor dysfunction of facial expression muscles caused by facial nerve abnormalities due to various reasons. The main manifestations are paralysis of the facial muscles on the affected side, disappearance of forehead wrinkles, eyeballs turning outward and upward when closing eyes, revealing the white sclera, shallowing of nasolabial grooves, drooping corners of the mouth, deviation of the corners of the mouth when showing teeth, air leakage when puffing the cheeks, etc. When the geniculate ganglion is affected, symptoms such as mastoid pain, auditory hyperesthesia and decreased sensation in the external auditory canal will also appear.

It is recommended that breastfeeding patients with facial paralysis take Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatment, mainly because it will not cause any adverse effects on the baby's health. Patients with facial paralysis should reduce light stimulation, watch less computer and TV, wear sunglasses when going out to reduce ultraviolet radiation; do not wash your face with cold water, and pay attention to keeping your head warm in cold weather; avoid physical fatigue, lack of sleep, mental tension and physical discomfort; and actively prevent viral infections.

Clinically, patients with facial paralysis take drugs that promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, which are not suitable for breastfeeding women. Acupuncture treatment can achieve the purpose of rapid recovery of the central nervous system through acupoint stimulation, will not affect the secretion of milk, and no drugs will enter the baby's body with the milk, so it is completely harmless to the baby. In this way, the majority of breastfeeding women can rest assured to receive treatment.
