What to do if you are overweight during pregnancy

What to do if you are overweight during pregnancy

When women are pregnant, they must pay attention to monitoring their weight, especially in the second trimester when weight gain is rapid. Some women can gain about 1,000 grams per month during pregnancy. Therefore, they should weigh themselves every day, control their diet reasonably, appropriately reduce fat and protein intake, and supplement more vitamins and minerals. The amount of food you eat should also be controlled. While meeting the physiological needs of the fetus and yourself, do not increase the amount of food you eat.

Being overweight during pregnancy can have many adverse effects. It is not only easy to cause pregnancy toxemia, diabetes, chronic hepatitis, heart disease, etc., but also easy to cause dystocia. During delivery, the labor pain is often weak or water breaks early due to the prolonged delivery time. Therefore, during pregnancy, you must have proper nutrition, a balanced diet, avoid overeating, and pay attention to preventing obesity. Pregnant women who are already obese cannot lose weight through medication, but they can reduce obesity by adjusting their diet under the guidance of a doctor.

Mainly control the intake of foods with high sugar and fat content. Grains such as rice and pasta should not exceed the daily standard supply. Among animal foods, you can choose more chicken, fish, shrimp, eggs, and milk with relatively low fat content, and less pork, beef, and mutton with relatively high fat content. You can also add some beans appropriately. This can ensure the supply of protein while controlling the amount of fat. Eat less fried foods, nuts, and plant seeds, as these foods are also high in fat.

It should be noted that being overweight during pregnancy is harmful to women. It can easily lead to bleeding gums and softening of bones. Women who are obese during pregnancy are more likely to suffer from anemia and may also develop hypertension during pregnancy. If a woman is obese during pregnancy, it may also cause fetal malformations, such as the birth of a giant fetus, or even pregnancy poisoning.
