How to take care of yourself after myomectomy

When it comes to uterine fibroids, everyone should be familiar with them. Uterine fibroids are a common disease of the female reproductive system. Most uterine fibroids are benign tumors, but if they are not treated promptly and actively, they will also have a great impact on women's health and life. Uterine fibroids are generally treated surgically. So how should we take care of ourselves after surgery?

In principle, nutritional intake after surgery is the same. You should drink more water to replenish the loss of body fluids during surgery.

Usually, patients can resume eating after waking up from laparoscopic surgery. At first, they can drink some warm water. If there is no discomfort, they can start eating liquid food (e.g. rice porridge). They can resume their normal diet the next day. Since protein is needed for wound healing, high-protein foods (e.g. fish, lean meat, eggs...) should be consumed to accelerate wound healing. Irritating foods should be avoided to prevent stimulating gastric acid secretion and causing gastrointestinal discomfort (e.g. chili peppers, cigarettes, oil, coffee).

The biggest difference between laparoscopic surgery and general open surgery is that carbon dioxide needs to be insufflated during the operation to create pneumoperitoneum for easy operation, so it is easy for residual carbon dioxide gas to remain in the abdomen after the operation. Therefore, it is advisable to increase the intake of vegetables and high-fiber fruits after the operation, and avoid eating gas-producing foods such as sweet potatoes, beans, onions, etc., so as to reduce the discomfort caused by abdominal distension after the operation.

As for larger surgeries, such as hysterectomy, intestinal adhesion reduction, cervical cancer eradication surgery..., because of the long anesthesia time and the long operation time, the gastrointestinal tract absorbs more gas and is more likely to have abdominal distension. Therefore, it is more appropriate to eat after 24 hours. For patients who are prone to nausea, vomiting and special physical conditions after surgery, there is no need to force themselves to eat. They can eat after the anesthesia is completely worn off.

This article describes different maintenance principles based on different surgical methods. For patients with uterine fibroids, post-operative maintenance is crucial. Even if the operation is successful, if the post-operative maintenance is not done well, it will still affect the recovery of the disease. Therefore, uterine fibroid patients and their families are reminded to pay attention to post-operative maintenance.
