Why can’t you do strenuous exercise during menstruation?

Many women know that there are many taboos to follow during menstruation, such as not getting cold or doing strenuous exercise. However, many people do not know why they cannot do strenuous exercise, and therefore do not understand the seriousness of the harm caused by strenuous exercise and ignore this taboo. There is a reason why you cannot do strenuous exercise during menstruation, because it can induce endometriosis. The following editor will introduce this reason in detail.

The dangers of strenuous exercise during menstruation:

Interference with normal menstrual periods. From a physiological mechanism perspective, strenuous exercise can inhibit the function of the hypothalamus, causing endocrine system dysfunction, thereby interfering with the formation and cycle of normal menstruation. Therefore, strenuous exercise should be avoided during menstruation, especially highly competitive competitions. Not only is the high-intensity exercise a consideration, but high mental stress can also lead to endocrine dysfunction and menstrual disorders.

Causes uterine prolapse. If strenuous exercise during menstruation causes uterine prolapse, you should be wary of high-intensity weight-bearing strength training. In particular, excessive weightlifting exercises can increase abdominal pressure and cause a temporary drop in the uterus. If excessive weightlifting exercises are performed for a long time, uterine prolapse will occur. Therefore, it is not advisable to do strength exercises that increase abdominal pressure, such as push-ups and dumbbells, nor to participate in sports such as high jump, long jump, 100-meter race and football.

Causes ovarian rupture. Vigorous activities during menstruation, lifting heavy objects, abdominal compression, collision, etc. may cause ovarian rupture, resulting in lower abdominal pain and even the entire abdomen.

Causes ovarian cysts. If women do strenuous exercise during menstruation, it may cause menstrual blood to flow back from the uterine cavity into the pelvic cavity. The endometrial debris flowing with the menstrual blood may be implanted on the ovaries and form cysts.

The above are some of the adverse effects of strenuous exercise during menstruation. If you have abnormal dysmenorrhea, be sure to go to the hospital for a check-up, and don't just think about enduring it. Although you cannot do strenuous exercise during menstruation, it is beneficial to do some light exercise, which can promote blood circulation and reduce congestion.
