What causes postpartum hemorrhage?

Many female friends have experienced the stage of pregnancy and childbirth. Within one month after giving birth, the woman’s body is very weak and she needs to stay in bed to rest and take supplements. During this period, the mother is prone to some discomfort, such as postpartum hemorrhage. So what causes postpartum hemorrhage in this situation, which usually occurs shortly after a pregnant woman gives birth? What should women do if they have postpartum hemorrhage? Let’s take a look at it below.

Postpartum hemorrhage refers to bleeding exceeding 500 ml within 24 hours after delivery of the fetus, and 80% of it occurs within 2 hours after delivery. Late postpartum hemorrhage refers to heavy uterine bleeding that occurs during the postpartum period 24 hours after delivery, and is more common 1-2 weeks after delivery. Postpartum hemorrhage is a serious complication of delivery and one of the four major causes of maternal mortality. In recent years, postpartum hemorrhage has been the leading cause of maternal mortality in my country, especially in remote and backward areas. The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage accounts for 2%-3% of the total number of deliveries. Due to the large subjective factors in measuring and collecting the amount of bleeding, the actual incidence is higher.

Postpartum hemorrhage requires examination

Routine blood and urine tests.

Learn about infections and anemia. Culture or smear of uterine secretions. Check to see if there is any residue in the uterine cavity, the healing condition of the uterine incision, etc. If there is uterine scrapings or hysterectomy specimens, examine them.

Generally speaking, if the mother or her family finds vaginal bleeding, the pregnant woman should be sent to the hospital immediately to prevent heavy bleeding in the pregnant woman, which may put her life in danger. There are many reasons for postpartum hemorrhage. Some women may have a small amount of blood after delivery, but this is a normal phenomenon due to lochia. However, if a mother feels uncomfortable after giving birth, she must not endure it and must go to the hospital for treatment.
