What to do if a woman suffers from acute gastroenteritis after pregnancy

Acute gastroenteritis is a sudden gastrointestinal disease, which is mainly caused by pathogen infection. When people eat food containing pathogens or other toxins, it can easily cause gastroenteritis. After the onset of the disease, patients will experience symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal distension. In today's society, many women often vomit after pregnancy. This may also be caused by acute gastroenteritis. It is recommended to receive timely treatment. So what should pregnant women do if they suffer from acute gastroenteritis?

1. Replenish water: If severe diarrhea causes a large loss of water and electrolytes, causing you to feel dizzy and weak, replenishing with sports drinks will improve the discomfort in your body. The amount to replenish depends on the severity of the diarrhea.

2. Try fasting: You can try fasting for one or two meals first to give your stomach and intestines a rest and expel the unclean things you have eaten previously (which may be food, medicine, bacteria or viruses) as soon as possible through diarrhea. Generally, the vomiting will subside first, and you may also feel a little nausea and upper abdominal discomfort.

3. Do not take medicine at will: If severe acute gastroenteritis occurs, you can take appropriate medicines according to the doctor's instructions to alleviate the symptoms. If you have a fever, bloody diarrhea and suspect infectious enteritis, please do not take antidiarrheal drugs on your own to avoid worsening of the condition. It is not recommended for pregnant women to go to the hospital for intravenous drips unless they are infected with cholera or in shock, are unconscious, have severe vomiting and are unable to eat.

4. Timely treatment: When a pregnant woman becomes ill, she should go to the hospital for treatment in time to control the development of the disease, and pay attention to the difference between the abdominal pain of enteritis and uterine contraction. Generally, abdominal pain caused by enteritis is a persistent disease. The abdomen is soft during the pain, and the pain can be relieved after defecation.

5. Prepare for delivery: If you experience paroxysmal and regular abdominal pain in the late pregnancy, and your abdomen becomes tight and hard during the pain, and you also have a feeling of heaviness or bloody vaginal discharge or feel water flowing out of the vagina, these are all signs of impending delivery. You should prepare for delivery as soon as possible, and remember not to squat for too long when defecating.

Through reading, we can see that pregnant women should first adjust their diet after suffering from acute gastroenteritis, and at the same time cooperate with the doctor to complete the treatment, so as to alleviate the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis. It is recommended that all pregnant friends pay attention to a balanced diet and avoid eating unhygienic food, so as to prevent gastroenteritis.
