If the disease is not effectively controlled or is controlled for less than one year before pregnancy, the condition may worsen during pregnancy or early after delivery. Data show that approximately 1/3 of patients with inactive ulcerative colitis and 2/3 of pregnant women with ulcerative colitis experience worsening of their condition during pregnancy, and approximately 10% of pregnant women may experience spontaneous abortion and terminate their pregnancy.
