How many days does it take to stop milk production and what are the methods to stop breasts from becoming hard?

It is said that breast milk is the most ideal food for babies. After more than ten months or a short period of breastfeeding, I believe many mothers will have this feeling, that is, the weaning is too painful. Especially for mothers with sufficient milk, some mothers have to go to work or other reasons and cannot fake breast milk for their babies, so they have to choose to wean their babies. However, after weaning, the weaning will stop, and the breasts will always be hard after weaning. How long it usually takes for this phenomenon to recover is our most concerned issue.

Method: 1. Change your eating habits. Eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet that includes fiber-rich grains (whole-wheat), vegetables, and legumes.

2. Massage your breasts frequently. Gently massaging the breasts can help return excess body fluid to the lymphatic system.

3. Wear a secure bra. In addition to preventing breast sagging, the more important function of a bra is to prevent further compression of the already compressed breast nerves and eliminate discomfort.

4. Avoid diuretics. Diuretics do help remove fluid from the body and can also reduce breast swelling. But this immediate relief comes at a cost. Excessive use of diuretics can disrupt electrolyte balance and cause more serious disorders.

5. Don’t eat salty food. High-salt foods can easily cause breast enlargement, and such foods should be avoided especially in the 7 to 10 days before menstruation.

6. Try hot compress. Hot compress is a traditional Chinese medical treatment that can relieve breast pain by using a hot compress bag or taking a hot bath. If you use alternating cold and hot compresses, the effect of eliminating breast discomfort will be better.

Warm reminder: When weaning, you can use the swelling method: let your breasts swell and endure the pain. After about a week, they will swell back. During the weaning period, you must be patient and avoid letting your baby suck intermittently or expressing milk due to bloating and pain. Doing so will inevitably prolong the weaning time.

Mothers who are preparing to wean their babies should first find suitable milk powder for their babies. Secondly, they should make a comprehensive adjustment to their diet and try not to eat high-protein foods. In addition, the time it takes to wean the baby depends on how much milk the individual has and the month of weaning. Generally, if there is not much milk, the baby can be weaned in a few days, but it may still take some time to get the milk back to normal.
