Estrogen levels are directly related to menstrual cycle Consistent with the menstrual cycle, the crystals produced by cervical mucus also undergo regular changes. If you use a needle to suck out a small amount of cervical mucus, smear it on a coverslip, and leave it for 10 to 20 minutes to make it dry naturally, you can see a fern-like crystal under the microscope. Depending on the shape, size and quantity of these crystals, the level of estrogen secreted by the uterus and ovaries can be determined. Generally, close to ovulation, the body's estrogen has reached its peak. At this time, the amount of cervical mucus is the largest, thinner and transparent, like egg white, and can be stretched to a continuous length. Under the microscope, typical fern-like crystals can be seen. After ovulation, under the influence of progesterone, the formation of crystals is inhibited. Therefore, the crystals under the microscope become more atypical and gradually disappear, forming rows of ring-shaped bodies without a specific structure, called ellipsoids. If the crystals persist throughout the menstrual cycle, it indicates that ovulation has not occurred. If no crystals are present or only very small, atypical crystals are present, this indicates ovarian depression. |
