What are the reasons for not giving birth on the due date?

The due date is the approximate time of delivery of the fetus calculated by the doctor based on the number of days of pregnancy. Pregnant women can make prenatal preparations in advance according to the due date. Some pregnant women reach the due date but do not live long. So, what is the reason for not giving birth when the due date comes?

Why haven't you given birth yet when your due date comes?

The due date is not the exact time when a pregnant woman will give birth. According to a survey, only about 53% of pregnant women give birth on their due date. The due date is the approximate time of the baby's birth calculated by the doctor based on the pregnant woman's pregnancy time.

When the fetus is born is affected by factors such as the intrauterine environment, the fetus's development, the pregnant woman's physical condition and the actual environment. The time of birth cannot be accurately predicted. The due date is only the approximate time of delivery of a pregnant woman. The purpose of calculating the due date is to allow pregnant women to prepare for being a mother, not to calculate which day the baby will be born.

Delayed delivery or delivery within two weeks in advance is normal and pregnant women do not need to worry too much.

What should I do if the due date has not come yet?

Many pregnant women have encountered this situation, and the baby is still not born after the due date. What should I do if I exceed the due date? In fact, it is normal for pregnant women to give birth within two weeks before or after the due date. If a baby is born between 24 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, it is considered a premature baby, and if it is born after 42 weeks of pregnancy, it is considered a delayed birth.

1. Don't be too anxious and pay attention to the baby's fetal movements. Once the fetal movement is less than 3 times per hour or less than 20 times within 12 hours, or the fetal movement becomes weak, you need to go to the hospital for further examination immediately. The doctor will decide the time for the pregnant woman to give birth based on the situation.

2. Conduct another pregnancy check-up and give the doctor the results of early pregnancy tests (such as B-ultrasound, blood tests, pregnancy tests, etc.) and the time and results of the baby's fetal movement, so that the doctor can check the pregnancy week again.

3. Improve pregnancy checkups, shorten the checkup intervals, keep in touch with the doctor at any time, inform the doctor of the baby's fetal movement in the uterus, and use B-ultrasound to follow up the amniotic fluid flow. If there is no abnormality, you can get pregnant again under close monitoring.

If the delivery date is delayed beyond 14 days, which is what clinical medicine calls post-term pregnancy, the embryo of some pregnant women will become fragile and the fetus will suffer from lack of oxygen and suffocation, which will cause great harm to the child. You should go to the hospital immediately to take certain effective measures.

Generally, one week after the due date, in other words, at 41 weeks of pregnancy, the doctor will recommend that the pregnant woman be hospitalized and treated according to the condition of her cervix. If the fetus has intrauterine distress, macrosomia, or a positive trans-pubic head sign, the doctor will recommend a cesarean section to complete the delivery and ensure care for both mother and baby.

If the fetus is normal and just a simple premature birth, the doctor will induce labor based on the condition of the cervix, promote the perfection of the mother's cervix, and induce spontaneous uterine contractions to initiate labor. The delivery process before and after this type of labor is no different from that before natural labor, and the progress of the delivery process is also the same, but the doctor will pay more attention to the observation of the fetus undergoing uterine contractions in the uterine cavity, and deal with any abnormalities of the fetus in a timely manner and properly handle them.

The premature fetus, because it continues to grow, the mother's placenta function weakens, the fetus will consume its own body fat, so the premature baby is born with many forehead wrinkles, like a little old man, and the immune resistance is not as good as that of a full-term baby.

Therefore, in order to prevent pregnancy delays, pregnant women should develop a good lifestyle, eat a balanced diet, exercise moderately, maintain a positive attitude, have regular prenatal checkups, and deal with any abnormalities in the fetus immediately. When the due date is approaching and there is still no feeling, pregnant women can massage their nipples on their own. This kind of nipple massage will stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete oxytocin to cause uterine contractions, usually 20 minutes each in the morning and afternoon, through nipple stimulation, to promote early delivery.
