There are three reasons why prolactin is high

Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gonadotropin, which mainly promotes the secretion of milk. The prolactin content reaches the highest level during lactation, and prolactin also increases during the menstrual period. However, increased prolactin at other times is generally due to pathological factors. The common factor is irregular menstruation. Irregular menstruation can cause ovarian dysfunction, thereby causing increased prolactin secretion. Women can understand the three reasons for high prolactin.

There are three reasons why prolactin is high

The so-called prolactin is actually a polypeptide hormone. Under normal circumstances, the maximum value will not exceed 20 ng/ml. If a woman has high prolactin, it may be caused by the following three reasons:

1. Women experience menstrual irregularities, most commonly oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea, and infertility. Examination may reveal symptoms of estrogen deficiency, such as dry vaginal mucosa and decreased secretions.

2. Galactorrhea symptoms occur, milk can be seen when squeezing both breasts, and fat droplets can be seen under the microscope.

3. If a woman experiences a long-term decline in estrogen levels, it will cause osteoporosis and a decrease in bone density.

What to do if prolactin is high

For women with high prolactin, the usual treatment methods are through medication and daily conditioning.

1. Taking some drugs that inhibit ovulation can help women solve the problem of high prolactin. However, this is based on the willingness to control fertility.

2. Usually daily conditioning is sufficient. This is mainly achieved through physical exercise, strengthening the physical fitness, paying attention to nutritional supplements, not staying up late, and getting more rest. At the same time, you should also adjust problems such as irregular menstruation and keep warm.

How to prevent high prolactin

In order to help women better avoid unnecessary harm caused by high prolactin, they can actually start with the little things in their lives. Dairy products should be avoided in the diet because yogurt, dairy products, sugar and meat can easily cause skin fever. Drink less caffeinated alcoholic beverages. You should eat more lettuce, kelp, salmon, sardines, etc.

At the same time, women's sex life should also be moderate. It can indirectly stimulate the degenerated ovaries to moderate the hormone system and prevent a sharp drop in estrogen. Only by knowing how to prevent it can you avoid the symptoms of high prolactin.

What are the symptoms of high prolactin?

1. Menstrual disorders. It includes irregular menstruation, scanty menstruation, amenorrhea, etc., among which amenorrhea is the most common. It often manifests as primary amenorrhea during adolescence and secondary amenorrhea after the reproductive period.

2. Infertility. Abnormally elevated prolactin inhibits ovulation and leads to infertility; mildly elevated prolactin causes luteal insufficiency and can easily lead to miscarriage.

3. Milk leakage. It usually manifests as non-bloody, milky or clear fluid flowing out of or being able to be squeezed out of both breasts, with varying amounts.

4. Headache, dizziness and visual impairment. An enlarged pituitary adenoma can cause compression of the surrounding brain tissue and optic chiasm, as well as cerebrospinal fluid reflux obstruction, resulting in headaches, dizziness, and visual impairment.

5. Low estrogen state. Due to the suppression of ovarian function, vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes and sweating, as well as changes such as breast shrinkage, vaginal dryness, and sexual dysfunction occur.

6. Other symptoms. 20%-30% of patients with hyperprolactinemia suffer from hirsutism and acne, and a small number of patients may become obese.
