How much bleeding is normal?

Female friends may experience bleeding after having an IUD inserted, and the bleeding is generally normal within half a month. For most women, bleeding will continue for 3-4 days after IUD insertion, and some will continue for 7 days. Under normal circumstances, the bleeding will gradually recover and no further treatment is needed.

Doctors believe that normal menstrual bleeding should be 20 to 60 ml, and more than 80 ml is considered menorrhagia. About half a year after the IUD is inserted, especially in the first three months, women are prone to adverse reactions such as heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period or mid-menstrual spotting. Some women may also experience a feeling of heaviness in the waist and abdomen. After the IUD is inserted, women may experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding, or a shortened menstrual cycle, heavier menstrual flow, or longer menstrual period. This is because the endometrium is compressed by the IUD and the cells undergo inflammatory infiltration. Over time, the symptoms will disappear as the uterus adapts.

If the amount of bleeding after the IUD is too much and the duration exceeds half a month, it needs to be taken seriously. It is an abnormal situation, mainly caused by the following two aspects:

① Pay attention to vaginal bleeding and the shedding of the ring. If you find that the vaginal bleeding is heavy, more than twice the normal menstrual blood volume or the bleeding time is longer, and the changes in the menstrual cycle are more obvious, you should go to the hospital for examination. During the first 3 months, you should also pay attention to whether the ring falls off.

②. Continuous bleeding after the IUD is inserted is caused by the IUD and can be relieved with amoxicillin and hemostatics. If the symptoms are particularly severe, such as bleeding accompanied by abdominal pain, you should go to the hospital for a safety check. If necessary, it is better to remove the IUD and use other methods of contraception.

Warm reminder: bathing and sexual intercourse are prohibited within half a month after the IUD insertion. This is an important point to note after the IUD insertion. Husbands should be more considerate of their wives. It is not too late to start a happy sex life after their wives recover.
