I am about to go through menopause. What should I do if my period is always irregular?

This is a problem that women in menopause and premenopause often encounter. Why does this happen? Come learn some basic knowledge about menstruation, which is commonly known as the menstrual period.

Menstruation is a physiological phenomenon unique to women. It is a manifestation of the growth and development of the uterus and ovaries of the female prostate and the maintenance of reproductive function. It can last for about 40 years in a woman's life. It is a manifestation of the regular increase and decrease of the secretion of estrogen and progesterone in the uterus and ovaries, which causes the continuous growth and shedding of the uterine wall, and the regular excretion of the shedding uterine wall fragments out of the body.

In other words, the arrival of menstruation is controlled by the ovaries. When girls are around 9-12 years old, their ovaries begin to grow and secrete hormones, and the uterine wall begins to grow and shed regularly under the influence of the hormones secreted by them. However, since the ovaries that begin to grow are not yet complete, the menstruation of girls in this age group may be very irregular.

As the ovaries continue to grow and develop, the cycle of secretion of hormones gradually becomes stable and regular. Women will have regular menstruation every month and it will last throughout the entire growth period. When they reach around 45 years old, the secretion function of the uterus and ovaries begins to decline, the levels of estrogen and progesterone continue to decline, the uterine wall no longer has the support of hormones and stops growing and shedding, and menstruation stops.

However, the decline of female ovaries is a gradual process, during which it will be affected by various factors and relapse. There may be a period of time when the secretion of estrogen and progesterone decreases and cannot cause menstruation, and menstruation will not occur again; but then the secretion of growth hormone may increase again, and menstruation will come again. After a few months without menstruation, menstruation will come again, and this cycle will repeat until menopause.

Therefore, true menopause for women means that there is no menstrual period for more than one year. Intermittent menstruation cannot be diagnosed as menopause. Therefore, the menopause age of different women varies from person to person. Most of them are between 45 and 55 years old. Some people are within the normal range of two years earlier or later.

But no matter which stage you are in, under normal circumstances, each menstrual period lasts about 3-7 days. If it is too short or too long, you need to find a problem. Especially for women who are about to enter menopause, because the metabolic capacity of the uterus and ovaries is reduced, the female hormones are continuously decreasing, and they cannot support the growth and shedding of the uterine wall well. They may have prolonged menstruation, incomplete bleeding, and even lasting for more than ten days or longer.

We should still pay attention to such situations. It is recommended to check the ovaries and the thickness of the uterine wall, and perform diagnostic curettage when necessary to let the dirty uterine wall fall off as soon as possible. Otherwise, the menstrual period will not be continuous, and anemia, infection and other problems may occur, which will have an adverse effect on women's daily life. In addition, this period is also a time when endometrial cancer is very likely to occur. Repeated bleeding or prolonged menstruation may be a warning sign and you should not take it for granted.
