Can I take medicine if I have allergies during breastfeeding?

It is common to have allergies during breastfeeding, but it is a bit troublesome to deal with, because we pay great attention to diet during breastfeeding, and some medicines cannot be taken randomly. Mild skin allergies do not require medication. Skin allergies are only a matter of time. Once the allergens disappear, the skin allergy problem will naturally return to normal. In this way, the child's breastfeeding can continue. So, can you take allergy medicine during breastfeeding?

1. If the allergy is more serious and requires medication, mothers should pay attention. For breastfeeding mothers, although most drugs will not affect the baby at normal doses, it is still recommended that breastfeeding mothers actively tell their doctors that they are breastfeeding before taking the medicine on their own, so that the doctor can prescribe suitable medicines and choose medicines with shorter duration to minimize the amount of medicine that passes through breast milk.

2. If a mother takes medicine after breastfeeding her baby, she should feed the baby when the concentration of the medicine in the breast milk reaches the lowest, so that the baby will be safer.

3. There is no need to prohibit breastfeeding when using anti-allergic drugs. You can breastfeed after stopping the medication.

4. It will take at least two days after the injection before you can breastfeed again. When breastfeeding again, you should first squeeze out the milk accumulated in the breasts.

5. When an allergy occurs, mothers should pay attention to washing children's and adult clothes separately, and use special basins to avoid transmission to the baby. Towels, underwear, and bed sheets should be washed with boiling water or exposed to the sun for disinfection.

6. Breastfeeding mothers should be aware of their allergens. Mothers with allergies are advised to do an allergen test to identify their allergens and avoid them, which is the best care for the baby.

Precautions

1. Do not take medicine at will. Breastfeeding women must use medications with caution. If you need to take medication, you should tell your doctor that you are breastfeeding and not take medication at will.

2. Breastfeeding should not be interrupted at will. Except for a few drugs that are prohibited during lactation, the amount of other drugs excreted in breast milk rarely exceeds 1%-2% of the medication used by lactating women. This dose will not harm the baby's body. Breastfeeding should not be interrupted while taking safe medications.

3. Adjust breastfeeding time after taking the medicine. In order to reduce the amount of medicine absorbed by the baby, breastfeeding women can take the medicine immediately after breastfeeding and postpone the next breastfeeding as much as possible, at least 4 hours, to minimize the drug concentration in the breast milk.

4. It is not advisable to take contraceptive pills. Contraceptives contain testosterone, progesterone, etc., which enter the body of lactating women and inhibit the production of prolactin, thereby reducing milk secretion. Moreover, the active ingredients in the contraceptive pills will enter the baby's body through breast milk, causing the breasts of male babies to become larger and the vaginal epithelium of female babies to proliferate. Therefore, breastfeeding mothers should not use contraceptive drugs.

5. Do not abuse Chinese medicine. Some Chinese medicines will enter the breast milk and make it turn yellow or have the effect of reducing milk production, such as rhubarb, roasted malt, Xiaoyao powder, mint, etc.
