Ulcers on the labia majora

Ulcers on the labia majora

The labia are an important part of the female vulva, so if you want to understand the causes of ulcers on the labia, you only need to understand the causes of female vulvar ulcers. In life, there are many reasons that can cause female vulvar ulcers, among which inflammation is the most common cause of female genitals.

What are the main causes of vulvar ulcers?

Inflammation is the most common cause of female genital ulcers. However, many women's diseases are also quite complicated, and the early stages of women's diseases are usually ignored by most women. It also creates conditions for inflammation to flourish.

Many diseases that women are prone to, such as nonspecific vulvitis, simple viral infection, chancroid, lymphogranuloma, Behcet's disease, etc., can cause vulvar inflammation and are also the causes of vulvar ulcers.

2. What to do after suffering from vulvar ulcer

During the occurrence and development of these diseases, the accompanying inflammation may cause certain changes in the vulvar skin, such as ulcers. About 1/3 of vulvar cancer in women has vulvar ulcer as one of its early manifestations.

If you suffer from genital ulcers, you should diagnose and treat them promptly, find out the cause as soon as possible, and provide targeted treatment. Reduce friction and keep the vulva clean and dry. Patients with severe symptoms should stay in bed. Under the guidance of experts, symptomatic treatment is carried out using both Chinese and Western medicine. In daily life, maintain good living habits.

In order to prevent vulvar ulcers, if you suffer from other gynecological diseases, you should seek timely treatment to prevent the development of inflammation. Also, if you find any symptoms, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment in time.

3. What are the symptoms of female vulvar ulcers?

Due to the different causes of acute vulvar ulcers, the clinical manifestations are also different.

(1) Nonspecific vulvitis

The condition is mild and often occurs after scratching. The ulcer is superficial but painful.

(2) Sexually transmitted diseases

In the course of many diseases, vulvar ulcers, genital herpes, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, and syphilis may appear.

(3) Behcet's disease

Also known as eye-mouth-genital syndrome. During the course of the disease, acute vulvar ulcers often occur, with the most common sites being the inner side of the labia minora, the inner 1/2 of the labia majora, and the vaginal vestibule. The clinical manifestations have the following three forms.

① Gangrenous type

The most severe clinical symptoms. Before the ulcer occurs, there are systemic symptoms such as fever and fatigue. The lesion area is obviously red and swollen, the number of ulcers is small, the appearance is like a hole, deep and with irregular edges. There is a lot of pus attached to the surface of the ulcer, or there is a dirty yellow or gray-black pseudomembrane attached. After removing the pseudomembrane, the base can be seen to be uneven.

The lesion develops rapidly, sometimes causing large tissue erosion defects, which look like vulvar cancer, but have soft edges and bases. The patient is in severe pain.

② Chancroid type

This type is more common. The disease develops slowly and there are no obvious systemic symptoms before onset. The ulcers are numerous and shallow, but large in area, with redness and swelling around them, irregular edges, and may also have perforation. There is pus on the surface of the ulcers. The patient's symptoms are mild, and the ulcer heals within a few weeks, but new ulcers may appear nearby.

③ Miliary type

This type of ulcer has many cases, but the lesions are small, ranging from the size of a needle tip to a grain of millet. The symptoms are very mild and the healing process is fast.

Since there are many causes of vulvar ulcers, careful observation of appearance and course of disease should be conducted clinically, combined with laboratory tests such as secretion smears, cultures, blood tests, and systemic examinations in order to make a clear diagnosis. For vulvar ulcers that do not heal for a long time, a living tissue should be taken from the lesion for pathological examination.
