What to do if you have swollen and painful hemorrhoids during pregnancy?

Many pregnant women will experience symptoms of hemorrhoids in the later stages of pregnancy. This is because the fetus is getting bigger, the uterus is squeezed, and the gastrointestinal motility becomes slower. Pregnant women often have symptoms of constipation. If they have difficulty going to the toilet at this time, symptoms of hemorrhoids will often appear. However, pregnant women should try to avoid taking medication during pregnancy. Can hemorrhoids be treated at this time?

Hemorrhoids in pregnant women are generally not very serious and do not require treatment first. They can be treated after giving birth. If they have already affected the pregnant woman, she should go to the hospital and use medication or treatment under the guidance of a doctor, because some medicines and treatments are not suitable for pregnant women.

Conservative treatment for hemorrhoids in pregnant women: Pregnant women suffering from hemorrhoids should mainly rely on diet adjustment and daily fumigation and sitting baths for treatment. Surgery is generally not used. Even if the condition is very serious, surgical treatment should not be performed until after the postpartum period.

Stop eating spicy and irritating foods, such as wine, chili peppers, pepper, ginger, onions, garlic, etc. Eat less indigestible food, which can cause constipation and aggravate hemorrhoids. Eat more vegetables and fruits that contain fiber and have a laxative effect, such as spinach, day lily, fungus, apples, peaches, pears, bananas, melons, etc.

If you have difficulty defecating, you can eat honey or some foods containing vegetable oils, such as sesame seeds, walnut kernels, etc.

Fumigation and sitting bath: You can use rhubarb, phellodendron, scutellaria, and sophora flavescens to boil water. Fumigate and wash the affected area while it is still hot, after defecation or twice a day in the morning and evening, for 15-20 minutes each time.

You can also use decoctions of mugwort, Sichuan pepper, Sophora horn or flower, purslane, fig, and Platycladus orientalis leaves for fumigation, washing, and sitting bathing. You can also use medicines such as Hemorrhoid Suppositories after defecation and sitz bath.

If a pregnant woman's hemorrhoids are not very serious, she does not need to be treated. She just needs to pay more attention to her diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in fiber, which can moisturize the intestines and promote bowel movements. If the condition is more serious, treatment can be carried out under the guidance of a doctor so as not to harm the fetus.
