Symptoms of Candidal Vulvitis

Symptoms of Candidal Vulvitis

Women are a vulnerable group in society. They are vulnerable and have to take care of the household, so they are much more vulnerable than boys in work and other aspects. After getting married, women are more likely to develop gynecological diseases, especially the external vagina is susceptible to infection. Therefore, over time, gynecology has been separated as an independent department, which is a great blessing for female patients. And candidal vulvitis is one of many female diseases. Vulvitis is very easy to occur in women. Let's learn about candidal vulvitis together!

Symptoms and signs of candidal infection include vulvar itching, increased vaginal discharge that is a cheesy, white, sticky discharge, and sometimes vulvar swelling and a burning sensation. During the examination, scratches can be seen on the vulva, surface plaques, and patchy thick secretions distributed on the vaginal wall and cervix. Sometimes there is dysuria and pyuria.

Diagnosis requires microscopic examination of a vaginal smear using a 10% potassium hydroxide smear to detect hyphae. Cultivation is of little significance and will only delay diagnosis. Although ordinary vaginal smears can also show the presence of Candida, they are not very reliable for the final diagnosis.

Treatment may be with mycobacterium or trichostatin cream or suppository, applied vaginally for 10-14 days. In addition to fighting infection, these suppositories can also effectively eliminate vulvar irritation symptoms.

For menopausal women, suppositories are more suitable because they are easier to insert. Although 1% gentian violet is effective, it is inconvenient to use. The vulva and vagina can be rinsed with 2-4% sodium bicarbonate water for one week. It is important to educate patients to maintain good personal hygiene habits, such as washing the vulva regularly and wiping from front to back after defecation to avoid infection from the rectum.

Routine screening for diabetes is generally not necessary for women of childbearing age with recurrent Candida infections. This detection rate is very low because the glycogen-rich vaginal epithelial cells are the guarantee of the reproduction ability of Candida albicans. However, in women with low estrogen levels (premenarche, postmenopausal, lactating, or oophorectomized), screening for diabetes is valuable because the carbohydrates necessary for Candida reproduction may be converted from glycosuria. The main symptoms are vulvar itching and burning pain. In severe cases, the patient will feel restless and extremely painful, often accompanied by frequent urination, urgency and pain during sexual intercourse. In the acute phase, the amount of leucorrhea increases, and the leucorrhea is characterized by being white, thick, and resembling curd or bean dregs. If there is vulvitis, clearly defined erythema can be seen on the vulva, and small satellite lesions can be seen around the large erythema. Sometimes scratches on the vulva or cracks on the vulva skin can be seen. There is also a yellowish-white discharge that is odorless. Symptoms are worse in a warm environment, such as in bed, when air circulation is restricted, or when people wear tight clothing or synthetic fabrics.

Women's health is the happiness of the whole family. Men are responsible for external affairs and women are responsible for internal affairs. Only when the internal affairs are well managed can men work well outside and children can be well taken care of by their mothers. Candidal vulvitis may not sound serious, but it is stubborn enough. If we pay attention to our diet in daily life, we can effectively prevent these unnecessary diseases. Why not?
