What should women do if they have iron deficiency anemia?

According to surveys conducted by relevant departments, most women, especially those in developing countries, generally suffer from anemia, which may be related to their living environment, living conditions, food safety and other reasons. Take our country for example, there are many women suffering from anemia, and anemia has become one of the common diseases, which can be contracted if not careful. So, what should women do if they have iron deficiency anemia?

1. Food fortification of iron for anemia caused by iron deficiency

Industrialized countries have long used food fortification with iron and achieved good results. In recent years, many developing countries have also promoted food fortification with iron to solve the problem of anemia in women and children. Foods commonly used to fortify iron include flour, corn flour, soy sauce, sugar, salt, etc.

2. Improve your diet and eat more iron-rich foods

Among animal foods, liver, blood tofu and meat have high iron content and are well absorbed; egg yolks also contain iron; vegetables have lower iron content and are poorly absorbed, but fresh green vegetables are rich in folic acid, which is involved in the production of red blood cells. Folic acid deficiency can cause cellular anemia and may also cause mixed anemia. Therefore, you should eat a certain amount of meat, liver, and blood tofu in your diet, as well as fresh vegetables. Animal liver is rich in iron, vitamin A and folic acid. Vitamins also help the absorption and utilization of iron. Eating animal liver once a week is very beneficial for preventing anemia.

3. Iron therapy

For women of childbearing age with moderate or severe anemia, in addition to improving nutrition, oral iron supplements are also very important. Commonly used iron supplements include ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous fumarate and blood-enhancing granules. In addition to taking iron supplements, patients with anemia during pregnancy can take small doses of folic acid. Pregnant women taking small doses of folic acid are not only beneficial for preventing anemia, but also for preventing congenital neural tube defects and congenital heart disease in their babies. But don't take too large a dose of folic acid.

Of course, in addition to insufficient nutrient absorption, female anemia is also related to uterine diseases such as menstruation and uterine bleeding. Some women do not pay attention to taking protective measures in their daily lives and miscarry immediately after becoming pregnant. These are the main causes of anemia. Therefore, it is recommended that women not only supplement more iron, but also pay attention to life details and develop good living habits.
