What causes pain when women urinate?

Some women often experience lower body pain when urinating. This pain is sometimes severe, but sometimes relatively mild. And because it is a private problem, some people tend to wait and are unwilling to seek medical attention immediately, but this often results in the disease becoming more and more serious. So, what is going on when women experience pain when urinating?

Dysuria refers to pain in the urethra, bladder, and perineum during urination. The pain can be mild or severe, often feeling like a burning pain, and in severe cases it can feel like a knife cutting. Painful urination is common in urethritis, prostatitis, prostatic hyperplasia, seminal vesiculitis, cystitis, urinary tract stones, bladder tuberculosis, pyelonephritis, etc. The characteristics of urinary pain can help to clarify the diagnosis of the disease. The specific causes are as follows:

(1) If there is obvious pain at the beginning of urination or dysuria, the lesion is mostly in the urethra, which is common in acute urethritis.

(2) Pain at the end of urination and urgency are common in patients with acute cystitis.

(3) Endocervicitis: Endocervicitis in women causes congestion, edema, easy bleeding when touched, increased yellow mucopurulent secretions, and lower abdominal discomfort in the cervix. These parts are closely related to the urethra and are factors that cause urinary pain.

(4) Sudden interruption of urination accompanied by pain or urinary retention: seen in bladder, urethral stones or urinary tract foreign bodies.

(5) Candidal vaginitis: The prominent symptoms are increased leucorrhea and severe itching of the vulva and vagina. The vaginal membrane is highly edematous with white flaky films adhering to it and easily peeling off. In addition, the damaged mucosa may erode or form shallow ulcers, which may irritate the urethra and cause urinary pain.

(6) Stinging or burning pain during urination: This is common in acute inflammatory stimulation, such as acute urethritis, cystitis, and pyelonephritis.

Therefore, when female friends experience stinging pain when urinating, they must seek medical attention in time, find out the cause, and then receive symptomatic treatment, no matter how mild or severe the pain is. Because if women experience stinging pain when urinating and do not receive timely treatment, the disease may further develop and they may develop pyelonephritis, which will be more harmful.
