What is the pain on the upper left side of the chest?

Pain in the upper left side of a woman's chest is generally a sign of breast disease, such as breast hyperplasia, breast cancer, mastitis, etc. It may also be related to nerve pain. A chest X-ray, electrocardiogram and B-ultrasound examination can be done to confirm the diagnosis. After the pain occurs, women need to change to a larger size bra to avoid squeezing the breasts, which will aggravate the pain. Pain above the left side of the chest should not be taken lightly, and the cause should be found out in time.

Pain in the upper left chest, above the heart, when pressed with the hand indicates that the pain is in the chest wall, and the most likely cause is chest wall muscle spasm. The main characteristics of this type of chest pain are local tenderness. Changes in body position, chest movement, and deep breathing can aggravate the pain. It can also manifest as tingling, spasmodic pain, etc.

The causes of pain in the upper left side of the chest are mostly due to prolonged incorrect posture, bending over, leaning on a desk, strenuous exercise, local cold, etc., which cause fatigue and spasm of the chest wall muscles. This kind of chest pain is very common among computer workers. Relax, get enough rest, avoid overwork, and keep warm to prevent cold. Correct bad postures and avoid maintaining a fixed posture for long periods of time, such as writing, reading, working, or operating a computer for long periods of time with your head down, to avoid causing continuous contraction of the head, neck, and chest muscles.

If the pain in the upper left chest occurs before menstruation, it is mostly because of the significant increase in estrogen in the body before menstruation, which causes breast tissue edema. This situation will disappear naturally after the menstrual period. These situations need to be checked and diagnosed in the hospital, such as an electrocardiogram to rule out whether it is caused by arrhythmia. If it is intercostal neuralgia, use some medication to treat it. Pay more attention to rest and avoid excessive fatigue.
