When is the time for pre-pregnancy check-up? What should I pay attention to?

As a female friend who is about to become a mother, prenatal check-up is a necessary event in life. At this time, female friends may feel confused. They don’t know what preparations to make for the prenatal check-up and what to pay attention to. In short, they don’t know anything. I tell you that it is normal for expectant mothers to have these situations. All you need to do is read the article below and make some preparations.

The exact time for various pre-pregnancy examinations

Ovarian function test

The second and third days of menstruation. Generally, blood is drawn on the second or third day of the menstrual period to check hormones. At this time, the hormones in the female body will not fluctuate much, so the ovarian function can be clearly understood and the female's fertility can be assessed.

Prolactin test

Better in the morning. Generally, if a woman's prolactin level is too high, it will interfere with normal ovulation and menstrual cycle. Since prolactin rises physiologically in the evening, especially at night, it is recommended to check in the morning for better accuracy.

Hysterosalpingography

Three to seven days after menstruation. Hysterosalpingography is the most commonly performed examination to assess the patency of a woman's fallopian tubes by injecting contrast agent into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. Never check during ovulation, as this will push the fertilized egg to the end of the fallopian tube or the abdominal cavity, causing ectopic pregnancy; do not check during menstruation, as menstrual blood may block the previously unobstructed fallopian tube and cause a misdiagnosis. Therefore, the best time to check is within three to seven days after the end of menstruation.

Ovarian tumor index (CA125) test

More suitable during non-menstrual period. When CA125 is slightly elevated, it does not mean that you have a tumor, but rather it indicates endometriosis. This disease has a great impact on pregnancy and generally requires routine examinations. If the test is done during menstruation, CA125 will show a false positive and be too high, which will cause the patient to worry in vain. Therefore, it is recommended that the test be done during the non-menstrual period.

Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy

The best time is three to seven days after menstruation. Within three to seven days after the end of menstruation, the endometrium is thin, the follicles are not yet mature, and there is no obvious congestion in the pelvic cavity. At this time, uterine hysterectomy, laparoscopy or surgery is helpful to observe the lesions clearly, reduce bleeding and prevent infection. Furthermore, it is more important to avoid having surgery while pregnant.

Precautions for pre-pregnancy check-up

Women should not drink alcohol the day before a physical examination, and should limit their intake of high-fat and high-protein foods, and avoid the use of preparations and particles that may affect liver and kidney function.

3 to 5 days before the examination, you should eat a light diet and it is best not to eat bloody foods such as pig liver and pig blood. Please fast completely after midnight the night before the examination.

If you have blood drawn or liver and gallbladder ultrasound examination, you must be on an empty stomach. If you are doing B-ultrasound of the bladder, prostate, uterus, or appendages, avoid urinating. If you cannot urinate, drink water until your bladder is full.

When undergoing X-ray examination, it is recommended to wear cotton underwear, and avoid wearing clothes or bras with metal buttons. Please remove necklaces, mobile phones, pens, keys and other metal objects. Pregnant women or women who may be pregnant should inform the health checkup service personnel in advance and be cautious when undergoing X-ray examinations.

Women must avoid their menstrual period when doing pre-pregnancy check-ups.
