12 days after delivery, lochia suddenly increases

After a woman gives birth, the body can only gradually recover after the lochia is completely discharged. If the lochia is not discharged, it will affect the body's recovery after giving birth. Some mothers find that their lochia does not decrease but increases after childbirth, which is obviously abnormal. Why does the lochia suddenly increase 12 days after giving birth?

Why does the lochia increase suddenly 12 days after giving birth?

If bleeding increases shortly after a pregnant woman gives birth, it may be caused by poor uterine contractions, birth canal lacerations, retained placenta, and coagulation abnormalities. This condition belongs to "postpartum hemorrhage" rather than as simple as postpartum lochia. At this time, most people go to the hospital and can receive proper treatment from medical staff on the spot and turn danger into safety.

Another situation is that the bleeding suddenly increases 2-3 weeks after the pregnant woman gives birth, and even internal bleeding occurs. This may be due to poor uterine repair at the embryo adhesion site, remnants of the embryo's fetal membrane or decidua, or infection of the uterine wound.

Abnormal postpartum lochia is generally manifested as dark purple color such as patula or pink, with a foul odor. It may also be accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, uterine tenderness, and lasts too long or recurs repeatedly. The causes of this condition are generally cervical erosion, cervical polyps, or even cervical cancer. If the duration of postpartum lochia is prolonged, exceeds the normal duration, is small in amount, is not accompanied by an increase in amount or change in color, and is colorless and odorless, it is also considered abnormal. The causes of this condition may be poor uterine repair, poor physical condition and qi deficiency of pregnant women, and endocrine imbalance.

Under normal circumstances, how long will it take for the lochia to be clear after delivery?

Many pregnant women are very concerned about the normal amount of postpartum lochia and how long it will take to clean up. This issue is directly related to the method of delivery and the physical condition of the pregnant woman. For mothers who give birth naturally and those who give birth by caesarean section, not only is the recovery time different, but the amount of lochia discharged after delivery is also different. Because mothers who have cesarean section give birth directly through surgery, during the operation, some doctors will clean the pregnant woman's uterus at the same time, and remove some blood clots, embryos, fetal membranes, etc. in the uterus. Therefore, the lochia after delivery of some mothers who have cesarean section always lasts about 2 weeks.

Generally, within 3 to 4 days after delivery, the lochia discharged from the vagina will appear red. After a few days, it will gradually change to reddish brown or light pink. After about 10 days, the lochia will turn into yellow-brown or yellow-brown. For mothers who choose to give birth naturally, on average, lochia may last until the third week after giving birth. Some mothers may have a little red lochia after the 10th day after giving birth, but if the flow is very little, there will actually be no big problems and there is no need to worry too much.

However, some mothers will drink Shenghua Tang after giving birth in order to allow the uterus to recover and contract as soon as possible. It is generally recommended to drink it one week after giving birth. But after drinking Shenghua Tang, the red color of lochia will last for a few days, which is normal. After a week, the color of lochia will gradually turn into dark brown.
