Causes of blurred vision in pregnant women

Getting pregnant is a great joy for every woman and every family. However, being a healthy and safe expectant mother is not as simple as you think, because it is not only about eating well, sleeping well, keeping a good mood at all times and other daily things, but expectant mothers will also experience some "abnormal conditions" that they can experience when they are not pregnant. "Blurred vision in pregnant women" is a common condition, however, do expectant mothers know why?

During pregnancy, some pregnant women will see stars in front of their eyes, feel small black spots moving in front of their eyes, and have blurred vision. It is normal for pregnant women to have blurred vision during pregnancy.

Studies have shown that the following changes occur in the eye during pregnancy: the thickness of the cornea increases, and the increase in corneal thickness becomes more obvious towards the end of pregnancy; the sensitivity of the cornea decreases, which affects the corneal reflex and the function of protecting the eyeball. This phenomenon can return to normal 6 to 8 weeks after delivery; the curvature of the cornea changes slightly, and it becomes steeper during pregnancy, causing a change of 0.25 to 1.25 diopters in the refractive examination, and the contact lenses that were previously suitable become inappropriate; the degree of myopia may increase, and pregnancy can cause the small blood vessels in the conjunctiva to spasm and contract, resulting in reduced blood flow. As the permeability of the lens to water increases, the curvature of the crystal becomes steeper, the myopia of the eye increases, and vision becomes blurry.

However, if the condition is serious and is accompanied by symptoms such as decreased vision, edema, hypertension and proteinuria, it is very likely pre-eclampsia and you must treat it as soon as possible. Pregnancy toxification usually occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy. Severe cases may cause blindness and coma, affecting the lives of pregnant women and fetuses. Under normal circumstances, if a pregnant woman's blood pressure exceeds 130/90 mmHg, pathological changes may occur in the retina of the fundus, causing visual impairment.

Although blurred vision is a normal phenomenon for pregnant women, there are different levels of severity. Therefore, if expectant mothers find that they have abnormal vision, they should go to the hospital for examination in time to avoid ignoring other reasons for the blurred vision of pregnant women. This is not only responsible for yourself, but also for the fetus in your womb. So, before giving birth. Expectant mothers should always pay attention to their own health.
