Treatment of postpartum episiotomy wound

Treatment of postpartum episiotomy wound

Many women undergo episiotomy during the delivery process in order to give the fetus a better delivery. However, many people do not understand how the episiotomy wound is healed after delivery. The following article will give you a detailed introduction to the care and episiotomy process.

2. Wound infection:

The symptoms are redness, swelling, heat, pain and other inflammatory symptoms in the local wound 2-3 days after delivery, and there may be nodules and purulent secretions when squeezed. In such cases, appropriate antibiotics should be administered and the stitches removed to allow the pus to drain. At the same time, physical therapy can be used to help reduce inflammation, or a sitz bath can be taken with a 1:5000 potassium permanganate warm water solution. After taking these measures, the perineum will generally improve or heal after 1-2 weeks because it has rich blood supply and strong healing ability.

3. The wound splits after the stitches are removed:

Some women may experience perineal dehiscence after the stitches are removed. If they have been discharged from the hospital, they should go to the hospital immediately for examination and treatment. If the wound tissue is fresh and has been split for a short time, you can immediately perform a second suture after proper disinfection. The stitches can be removed after 5 days and the wound can mostly heal again. If the wound tissue is not fresh and there is secretion, you cannot suture it. You can take a potassium permanganate solution sitz bath and take antibiotics to prevent infection. Wait for a local scar to form before it heals.

After delivery, pay attention to the care of the perineum wound to keep it clean

1. Before removing the stitches, rinse twice a day with 1:1000 Sanisol or other disinfectant, and once after defecation, and avoid contamination by feces and other dirt;

2. After the stitches are removed, most women have returned home. If the lochia has not yet cleared, they should still wash the vulva with warm water twice a day. At the same time, you should keep your bowels open to prevent the wound from splitting. If necessary, you can take some laxatives. It is best to sit down to defecate and avoid squatting for too long. In addition, the inside of the wound is not yet firm after the stitches are removed, so you should not walk too much or do exercises that involve too much movement. 3. In addition, under normal circumstances, the perineal wound will feel uncomfortable before the stitches are removed, and it may also be painful when sitting. The discomfort will generally be alleviated after the stitches are removed, but it will take 2-3 weeks to fully restore normal feeling. Some women find that knotted intestinal thread has fallen out of their vagina about 10 days after delivery. There is no need to panic, as it is the intestinal thread that has fallen off from the vaginal opening. If there is a thread in the perineum, you should see a doctor and have it removed promptly to avoid infection.

The above introduces the care of episiotomy wounds for postpartum women, as well as the detailed process. Friends have a certain understanding of this. In life, it is recommended that friends pay attention to their own bodies and the recovery of episiotomy wounds in a timely manner to prevent inflammatory infection.
