What causes high levels of testosterone in women?

If a woman has too much testosterone in her body, her outward features will become more masculine, and in severe cases it may affect her fertility. So what causes excessive levels of testosterone in women? Let’s take a look together below!

Reasons for high testosterone levels in women:

1. 60% of testosterone is bound to beta globulin in the blood, called testosterone-estradiol binding globulin (TEBG), about 38% (mainly androstenedione) is bound to albumin, and free testosterone accounts for only 2%, but it is active. If TEBG binds to estradiol more and binds to testosterone less, the free testosterone in the blood will increase.

Second, due to excessive secretion of the ovary or adrenal cortex.

Third, it may also be caused by abnormal peripheral conversion.

4. Hyperinsulinemia caused by insulin resistance can stimulate the ovary to secrete a large amount of androgen.

Fifth, the enzyme system is disordered during the biosynthesis of steroid hormones, such as aromatase deficiency, androstenedione cannot be converted into estrone, and testosterone cannot be converted into estradiol, resulting in excessive accumulation of androstenedione, especially testosterone.

Generally, obese patients have more androgen. The reasons for the high level of androgen in women are mainly due to changes in dietary structure, increased mental stress, and environmental factors. This causes the thyroid gland secretion in women to become unbalanced, testosterone levels to gradually increase, and estrogen levels to be suppressed. Excessive secretion of androgen in the body can cause the patient to experience symptoms such as obesity, excessive hair growth, infertility, acne, menstrual disorders, and even masculine characteristics.

Through the editor’s sharing above, you may have a certain understanding of the high androgen levels in women. Then, in your future diet and life, you must do a good job of personal care and health care to prevent adverse symptoms.
