How many days after menstruation can you conceive?

Female pregnancy is a relatively complex process, which is affected by many factors. If there is a problem in one of the links, the result may be very different. Menstruation has a great impact on pregnancy. By calculating the menstrual cycle, we can know the approximate time range of fertility, which has a great impact on women who want to get pregnant and those who want to avoid pregnancy. So, can you get pregnant a few days after the end of menstruation?

The few days before and after menstruation are the safe period. The method of calculating the ovulation period according to the menstrual cycle is also called the calendar method. Both menstruation and ovulation are affected by endocrine hormones from the pituitary gland and ovaries and show cyclical changes. The length of their cycles is the same, both occurring once a month, and ovulation occurs between two menstrual periods. Women's menstrual cycles vary in length, but the interval between ovulation and the start of the next menstruation is relatively fixed, usually around 14 days. Based on this relationship between ovulation and menstruation, the ovulation period can be calculated according to the menstrual cycle. The calculation method is to count from the first day of the next menstrual period, and count down 14 days or subtract 14 days to get the ovulation day. The ovulation day and the 5 days before and 4 days after the ovulation day are called the ovulation period. This is the theoretical basis of the rhythm method of contraception.

Measuring basal body temperature can help you accurately determine your ovulation period. Basal body temperature measurement refers to the oral body temperature measured after 6 to 8 hours of sleep, when you wake up without performing any activities (such as talking, eating, or getting up). The temperature records measured by date are connected into a curve, which is called the basal body temperature curve. Because the progesterone secreted by the ovaries after ovulation can stimulate the body temperature center to increase body temperature, the basal body temperature of those who ovulate is low in the first half of the menstrual cycle, while the basal body temperature in the second half, that is, after ovulation, rises. Generally, the temperature difference between the two can reach about 0.5°C, thus showing a biphasic change with ups and downs on the basal body temperature curve. If there is no ovulation, the basal body temperature curve will be flat and unchanged and will be monophasic. The ovulation period is usually on the day when the body temperature drops and then rises again on the curve. Except for the menstrual period and ovulation period, the rest of the time is the safe period, but the safe period is not necessarily completely safe. Women whose body temperature changes are not obvious during ovulation can measure several menstrual cycles more often so that they can understand their ovulation patterns. In addition, factors such as cold, fever, or use of progesterone should be ruled out when measuring basal body temperature.

From this, it can be inferred that the chance of getting pregnant during the safe period of the first few days after the end of menstruation is relatively small, but it is not completely impossible. Whether you want to get pregnant or not, calculating your menstrual cycle is helpful in itself, and it reflects a woman's physical health to a certain extent.
