After myopia surgery, some people have 1.0 and some have 1.5? Why does everyone's vision differ after myopia surgery?

After myopia surgery, some people have 1.0 and some have 1.5? Why does everyone's vision differ after myopia surgery?

For myopia surgery, in addition to safety, many people are also concerned about the effect of the surgery and the recovery of vision after surgery. More and more young people are taking off their glasses through myopia surgery, but many people who don’t know about myopia surgery have some misunderstandings, such as “Can the vision reach 1.2 or 1.5 after myopia surgery?” “If the vision does not reach 1.2, is the surgery unsuccessful?” Today we will answer these doubts for you.

01

First, understand what myopia is?

The normal eye axis is 24mm , and for myopic people, the degree of myopia increases by about 275 degrees for every 1mm increase in eye axis. If you want to "recover" from myopia, you have to shorten the eye axis. A person who has grown taller will not naturally become shorter, so a person who has myopia will not naturally recover to normal vision. (Of course, the myopia mentioned here refers to true myopia!)

02

Who is suitable for myopia surgery?

If you want to know whether you are suitable for myopia surgery, a systematic preoperative eye examination is very important. It can not only help doctors design a surgical plan suitable for individuals and lay the foundation for good postoperative results, but also find out whether you are really suitable for myopia correction surgery and predict the postoperative results. Therefore, we will conduct more than 20 preoperative examinations for you before the operation to ensure the postoperative recovery.

03

How much vision can be achieved after myopia surgery?

The principle of myopia surgery is the same as that of wearing frame glasses, which is to correct myopia by adjusting the refractive state of the eyes.

The visual acuity achieved by each person after myopia surgery is not the same, which is closely related to the density and distribution of visual cells on the retina.

If the visual acuity does not reach 1.5 after the operation, is the operation considered a failure?

Of course not! According to the international standard eye chart, the normal standard for binocular vision is 1.0; according to the Chinese eye chart, the normal standard is 5.0.

The visual acuity after surgery depends on your best corrected visual acuity before surgery. The visual acuity after surgery is similar to the best visual acuity you can achieve with glasses. If the best visual acuity with glasses can reach 1.0, it can generally be achieved after surgery. However, it is not ruled out that some myopic friends recover better, with a corrected visual acuity of 1.0 before surgery and a level of 1.2 after surgery. The conditions of each person's eyeballs are different, and the level of recovery after surgery will also vary slightly.

04

What to do if the corrected vision is not good after surgery

Whether friends with poor corrected vision are suitable for surgery depends on the specific situation. If the corrected vision is poor without organic lesions in the eye, surgery is usually not recommended for corrected vision below 0.3. Those with corrected vision above 0.3 can decide whether to have surgery based on their needs. If the eye has combined organic lesions, decide on surgery after the treatment of the organic lesions has recovered.

It must be noted that myopia surgery cannot correct amblyopia.

Generally speaking, myopia and astigmatism can be corrected to achieve normal vision, but amblyopia cannot achieve normal vision even with correction.

05

How long does it take to achieve ideal corrected vision after surgery?

Generally, ideal vision can be achieved or approached on the second day after surgery. Of course, in addition to the direct data measured by the eye chart, the measurement of visual quality also includes indicators such as contrast vision and contrast sensitivity, which take some time to recover slowly.

If there is slight fluctuation in vision or night glare for a period of time after surgery, it is normal and will gradually disappear over time. Because the surgical method and each person's eye condition are different, the time required for vision to stabilize after surgery varies. Generally, vision will stabilize after 3-6 months of recovery.

But don’t worry, this period will not affect your work, study and daily life~

06

How to maintain good vision after surgery?

Myopia surgery only removes the current degree of myopia, which is equivalent to giving the myopic person a chance to start over. Therefore, after the surgery, you need to develop healthy eye habits and avoid overusing your eyes:

After the operation, you need to follow the doctor's orders and take the medicine on time. You should have a checkup on time one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year after the operation.

After the operation, avoid dirty water entering the eyes, do not wear eye makeup for one month, avoid chemicals falling into the cornea and causing infection, do not swim within three months, and do not dive within six months.

Develop scientific eye habits, avoid using your eyes at close range for long periods of time, and give your eyes 10-15 minutes of rest after using them for about 45 minutes. You can also wear sunglasses when going out outdoors in the summer to reduce the stimulation of ultraviolet rays.
