A few days ago, the government announced that China's pertussis vaccine immunization program will be updated starting from January 1, 2025. Today, at 2 pm on December 30, 2024, the Health Immunization Department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention held a video conference on the deployment and training of the adjustment of the national immunization program of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines and diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines . At the conference, relevant matters related to the application of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines were publicized.

Judging from the results of the publicity meeting, the basic information is consistent with that released previously, with the exception of the adjustment of the DTP vaccine from 4 doses (1 dose each at 3, 4, 5, and 18 months of age ) to 5 doses (1 dose each at 2, 4, 6, 18 months of age and 6 years of age) , there is no mention of the immunization procedures for the quadrivalent vaccine and pentavalent vaccine.

Regarding revaccination , starting from January 1, 2025, children of appropriate age will be vaccinated according to the adjusted national immunization plan for diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus (DTaP) and diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus (DT) vaccination procedures:

- Children 6 years and under: Vaccination and booster shots with DTaP vaccine

- Children aged 7 to 11: Boost vaccination with DT vaccine

In addition, since the adjusted DTP vaccine is an immunization program vaccine (i.e. "free vaccine"), based on current information, the two non-immunization program vaccines (i.e. "self-paid vaccines"), the quadrivalent vaccine and the pentavalent vaccine, still need to be administered according to the procedures in the instructions .

The information comes from the "Notice of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Issuing the Technical Plan for the Adjustment of the Immunization Program of DPT Vaccine and TTP Vaccine"

1. Diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine immunization schedule and vaccination method

1. Vaccination subjects and doses: A total of 5 doses are given, with 1 dose each at 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months of age for basic immunization, and 1 dose each at 18 months and 6 years of age for booster vaccination.

2. Administration route: intramuscular injection.

3.Inoculation dose: 0.5ml.

(II) Other matters

1. Starting from January 1, 2025, children aged 2 months and above should receive their first dose of DTP vaccine as soon as possible. If children of appropriate age receive non-immunisation program vaccines containing pertussis components according to the vaccine instructions, they can be regarded as having received the corresponding doses of DTP vaccine.

2. Starting from January 1, 2025, children under the age of 7 who have not received the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine at the age of 6 should receive one dose of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine at the age of 6 and will no longer receive the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine. If they have received the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine at the age of 6, they will no longer receive the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine.

3. Children under the age of 7 who have received diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines at the age of 6, if the cumulative number of doses of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccines is less than 3, should be boosted in accordance with the principles of the "National Immunization Program Vaccine Childhood Immunization Schedule and Instructions (2021 Edition)".

4. For children who are 7 years old as of January 1, 2025, if they still need to get a booster shot of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine, they should do so in accordance with the principles of the "National Immunization Program Vaccine Child Immunization Schedule and Instructions (2021 Edition)".

(III) Principles of replanting

1. Principles of booster vaccination for children aged 2 months to 6 years

Children who have not completed the DTP vaccine doses according to the national immunization program should receive the missed doses as soon as possible. When receiving the booster doses, the interval between the first three doses should be no less than 28 days, the interval between the fourth and third doses should be no less than 6 months, and the interval between the fifth and fourth doses should be no less than 12 months. After the missed doses are received, the subsequent immunization doses should be given as far as possible according to the recommended age of the immunization program (Appendix 1), provided that the minimum interval for booster doses is met.

2. Principles of booster vaccination for children aged 7 to 11 years

(1) For patients who have received less than 3 doses of DTP vaccine, 3 doses of DTP vaccine should be supplemented with DTP vaccine, with the second dose separated by 1 to 2 months from the first dose and the third dose separated by 6 to 12 months from the second dose.

(2) For those who have received three or more doses of DTP vaccine, if they have not received DTP vaccine at the age of 6, they should receive a booster dose of DTP vaccine as soon as possible; if they have received DTP vaccine at the age of 6, there is no need for booster dose.
