#千万IP创科普# Beware of diabetes, severe cases can cause cerebral infarction

Diabetes is closely related to cerebral infarction and is one of the important risk factors for cerebral infarction.

Cerebral infarction, also known as ischemic stroke, refers to ischemic necrosis or softening of localized brain tissue caused by impaired blood supply to the brain, ischemia, and hypoxia. Diabetic patients are more likely to suffer from cerebral infarction, and the risk of the disease is several times higher than that of ordinary people. It mainly occurs in patients with type 2 diabetes. This type of people are not only prone to cerebral infarction, but also myocardial infarction, both of which are vascular complications.

0 1. Common symptoms

The symptoms of cerebral infarction in diabetic patients are the same as those of simple cerebral infarction. Depending on the site of onset and the severity, they may manifest as language disorders, limb disorders, and consciousness disorders. Mild cerebral infarction only manifests as dizziness and unclear thinking, which are easy to be ignored. Severe cerebral infarction may manifest as paralysis, slurred speech, coma, etc.

(1) Subjective symptoms: headache, dizziness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, motor and/or sensory aphasia, and even coma.

(2) Cranial nerve symptoms: Both eyes stare toward the side of the lesion, central facial paralysis and tongue paralysis, pseudobulbar palsy, such as choking when drinking water and difficulty swallowing.

(3) Physical symptoms include hemiplegia or mild hemiplegia, hemisesthesia, unsteady gait, limb weakness, incontinence, etc.

0 2. How to prevent

For any diabetic complication, the best treatment is prevention. Avoiding complications is the best approach:

1. Diabetic patients should strictly control their diet and adhere to hypoglycemic treatment to keep their blood sugar within the normal range. The blood pressure of diabetic patients should be controlled at ≤130/85mmHg;

2. Hypertension patients should take long-term medication and measure their blood pressure regularly to keep their blood pressure within the normal range;

3. Patients with hyperlipidemia should receive lipid-lowering treatment;

4. Regularly conduct blood rheology examinations. Those with high blood viscosity need to take a small dose of aspirin orally;

5. Regularly check your heart, pay special attention to changes in heart function and arrhythmia, improve blood supply to the heart, and prevent and treat coronary heart disease;

6. For sudden symptoms such as headache, dizziness, memory loss, slow reaction, amnesia, blurred vision, facial numbness, etc., you should be vigilant and go to the hospital for a head CT scan as soon as possible for early detection and treatment.

03. How to deal with diabetes complicated by cerebral infarction

If complications occur by chance, what else can diabetics do to improve the condition besides seeking medical treatment in time?

1. If you feel unwell, you should go to the hospital for a check-up immediately. After confirming that you have a cerebral infarction, first of all, you should control your blood sugar; secondly, you should exercise more, control your weight, quit smoking, and quit drinking.

2. There are many reasons for inducing cerebral infarction, such as age, gender, and whether there are other diseases, such as diabetes. Among them, factors such as age and gender cannot be changed, but if you have diabetes, you need to adjust your blood sugar and try your best to keep blood sugar stable without large fluctuations and severe hypoglycemia.
