Missing teeth | Is it better to get a crown or a dental implant?

Compared with dental crowns and dental implants, if the economic conditions allow, it is recommended to choose dental implants ! Dental implants are more stable and durable, have a longer service life, and have better chewing function. At the same time, dental implants can also restore facial appearance.

If the tooth is damaged to a small area, it can usually be repaired with a brace , which can protect the tooth and tooth root and extend the life of the tooth. If the tooth has fallen out, it can be repaired with a dental implant.

Crown restoration

Crown restoration, also known as porcelain bridge restoration, requires the wear of healthy adjacent teeth on both sides as abutment teeth. Once the adjacent teeth are worn, the damage to them is irreversible. If black lines on the gums or gingival inflammation occur due to poor crown material, or if root inflammation occurs due to poor fit, the crown will need to be removed for secondary restoration, which is both costly and painful.

Although the dental crown can restore the integrity of the dentition, it has poor bite function and cannot chew hard food. Moreover, it can generally only be used for about ten years. It has poor chewing function and a short service life.

In addition, crown restoration cannot delay the atrophy and absorption of the alveolar bone in the edentulous area due to the lack of chewing stimulation. If a secondary restoration is needed at a later stage, it will increase the difficulty of restoration and the cost of restoration.

Dental Implant Restoration

Dental implants are recognized by the oral medicine community as an important way to repair missing teeth and are very popular among citizens with missing teeth.

Dental implants do not require wearing down adjacent teeth. They are done by implanting the implant into the alveolar bone of the edentulous area. After the implant combines with the alveolar bone, a crown similar to a natural tooth is installed on it to solve the problem of missing teeth.

Dental implants do not require grinding of teeth. The implants serve as tooth roots and will not damage the health of adjacent teeth. The shape and color are lifelike and natural, there is no foreign body sensation, and they are comfortable to use.

Dental implants are stable and durable, and their chewing function is the same as that of real teeth. They can enjoy even harder foods and taste delicious. Daily brushing and cleaning are sufficient. With proper oral care, they can be used for decades and have a long service life.
